One last question before I consider the HVX

Recently I've had several people who have owned Panasonic cameras (both consumer and professional) and they recommended I not get the HVX because they have had Panasonic break after the warrenty expired. Now I'm stuck wondering what to do. Someone help me out here.

We have two DVX100A's here that must be a couple of years old, and haven't given us any trouble at all.

Any product is capable of breaking after the warranty period. Depends on how you use it. IF you need the HVX for its unique capabilities then that is not a good reason to not buy it. Panasonic has good repair service so don't worry and go for it!

I've had a 'prosumer' 3CCD panasonic camera since it's release in late 1999. I logged many, many hours of shooting on it and used it probably even more as a deck for capturing and printing to tape. Mid way through last year the record head finally bit the dust. That's a good five years of use and, yes, sometimes abuse. Heads and transports are almost always the first to go on any camera or deck.

Remember, unless you are doing DV shooting on the HVX, there are no heads or moving tape transport parts to gum up. You'll probably be shooting on it in twenty years. It may be obsolete by then but I bet it will still work.

I have no issues with my record head going on the fritz...I could get it fixed but the camera is on its way to obsolete. It paid for itself many times over and it now makes for a lovely confidence monitor.

BTW - every other function of the camera works perfectly fine. I have no reservations in saying get the Panasonic. They make solid stuff.

Thanks guys I think I will go ahead and join the backorders for the HVX. It's just I have so many against my getting the HVX.

My DVX did require a repair. The main board was the problem.
Got it repaired for less than the extended warranty would have cost.
Just shot another spot with it yesterday. And your hesitation is to buy the HVX because it might break-down?? So what if it does.
I always say....If it ain't broke then you are not using it enough!!!

I've had a Panasonic DVC10 which I just downgraded to my number 4 camera after 5 years of reliable service. It's still running strong.

1 - Panasonic AG-HVX200
2 - JVC GY-DV500
3 - JVC GY-Dv300
4 - Panasonic AG-DVC10
