Looking at the 20" Dell Widescreen or two 17" regular lcds. What are some pros/cons of either configuration. This will be for editing and also web browsing/normal use. Thanks.
I have a 19 inch Sony SDM-HS95, and I'm thinking of adding a widescreen LCD of some sort to view my preview on. Of course, I'd like one that can display 1080i since I'll be doing most of my work with the FX1. But then...I'll be de-interlacing with Magic Bullet so, maybe a monitor that can do 720p will suffice....so confused.
Two large screens vs one is always better. Try to get the cleanest out you can get. If you are doing SD or HD you will definitely need the corresponding monitor to show correct colors for correction. Be it 550 line Studio monitor for SD like the PVM series by Sony or a quality HD screen for High Def output. Don't skimp on some cheap monitors because you will be sorry you didn't do it right the first time. There are two things you should look for is it to do dedicated Blue Screen for calibration and also good monitors uses BNC plugs vs RCA.
I would always advocate 2 monitors over one. In terms of productivity, multi-monitors is far and away the winner.
Be aware, however, that if you do go multi-monitor, there's no turning back. There's no way you'll ever feel at home on a single monitor again. In any case, native 1080i viewing not withstanding, you might want to consider getting two 20" widescreens (that's my setup). If you can't get two immediately, start with one, and then add the 2nd when you've got the cash. It'll give you a lot more screen real estate compared to two 17" monitors.
