GH2 Once recording the LCD preview changes?

Hi everyone, new to the GH2...but been filming on canon's for awhile. Today I finally got time to play around with the GH2 and I am trying to find the flattest setting (more options in post)...but I noticed a lot on settings such as Smooth or Nostalgic when I hit Record either the contrast changes to overall darker or the colors become more saturated :/

Anyone know how to fix this?

LCD Preview is not exactly WYSIWYG...until you start recording. At least on the GH1, you have to take into account the frame rate and shutter speed that will be displayed once you start recording. It should look a lot better than the preview image, which is used for framing, focusing, etc. You should also be able to adjust the preview image so that the LCD isn't adjusting too much for lighting conditions, to give the most accurate preview, closer to the image that is being recorded. There should be a whole segment on this in the manual. Good luck!

Set your color profile to custom. When recording video the camera switches to the color profile preset. Custom will maintain what you have manually set up so it will no longer change when recording starts. This has been discussed before. Look up color profiles in the manual for details on setting to custom. Setting on custom is very important for video.

Ummm...AFAIK this is not true at all. Still changes slightly whether using a My Film setting or the built-in settings with custom adjustments. They're exactly the same thing, and have the same behavior. What exactly are you referring to?

this issue has been brought up over and over again with no fix. in addition, barry and jan fails to make an appearance in regards to this issue. looks like panasonic is just looking the other way... and to the people who think it's ok to be previewing something they're not recording [losing 1/2 stop of light & color shifting]--- it is NOT ok!

Presumably you are using the full movie mode and not just pressing the record button in one of the photo modes?

That's totally the wrong place to send them lol. This camera isn't even made by that company.

Seems ok to me. Once you hit record what you see is what you get. Before you hit record you can use the light meter and histogram and clipping to judge what you're getting. Shooting on film you don't get any kind of live monitoring for exposure, just composition, so it's been perfectly ok for cinematographers for literally generations, and now still, to be seeing something they're not getting through their optical finders and video taps.

Anyway, Barry doesn't work for Panasonic and Jan doesn't work for Lumix so I don't know what they'd have to say on it.

Um, what? Why would they need to be held accountable for this? You know this isn't Panasonic's forum, right? And you know Jan isn't involved with the GH2 at all, right?

Geez.

I will have to check it out, I am just use to 7D's & 5D's LCD Preview being exactly the same when I hit record....

No, that's what I thought was going on at first but I saved one of them as the custom film presets and it still does it.

Using full movie mode, Cinema 24p and have all setting pretty much to manual...so no thats not the case.

I tried searching for this problem before creating a topic but couldn't find one... :(
