i was on a music show shoot last night. we had set up and tested everything earlier in the evening.
the show was about to start. i fumbled around in the dark room and plugged in my headphones and powered on the camera. to my surprise the iris automatically went to closed position. i spun the iris dial in both directions and nothing happened.
for the next several minutes, i then checked and double checked every possible setting that could possibly force the iris to close. all to no avail.
so as a last ditch effort i went into my gear bag to get my bebob remote iris control in hopes that it would override the in camera control...
imagine my surprise when i went to plug it in and found my headphones plugged into the remote iris control jack.
removing the headphone plug and replacing it into its proper receptacle freed the iris control and all was fine.
so learn from my mistake:
PLUGGING A HEADPHONE CABLE INTO YOUR REMOTE IRIS JACK WILL IMMEDIATELY CLOSE AND LOCK ALL IRIS FUNCTIONS.
facepalm.
