On cam light for hvx200?

There are small lights with built in batteries (made for Handycams) available at Best Buy, etc. that will work for closeup/eye light . They are in the $50 range. For serious on camera lighting though, you will have to spend $250 or more (VidLED, etc.)

ALso, some of the DIY crowd has experimented with LED camping lights with
50-60 LEDs. These are only $5-$10. Problem is, the LED's are cheap and therefore very blue. If this is the only light you are using in a very dark environment and you white balance to it, it can work OK. They throw off a substantial light.

I settled on the PAG light. Small and lightweight with a very nice beam. Don't settle on a "no-name" el cheapo LED light with a harsh beam from ebay, you'll regret it.

I occassionally rent a Lite Panels kit which is superb.

Unfortunately if you want something half-way decent you have to spend a couple bucks. In my case the battery is nearly as expensive as the light.

VIDLED....... suits me perfectly, very good light, well built, not a hint of regret in choosing the led option

mike light/ camping light

mike light/ camping light

My buddy bought something called a mike light that goes around a shotgun onboard mike and he paid like 150 bucks for it and it's a really nice LED light. It's daylight balanced and puts out a soft even light. Well, my buddy was in a camping supply store and found exactly the same thing, except that it's not daylight balanced at 5600k, but like 6000k and it was a whopping 12 bucks. IT's an incredible deal for a light with 48 LEDs... And for that price you could buy like 4 of them and put them around the room and get something to really work with... Might be worth a try and they are great for car interiors.

cheers

I built myself a 35W halogen light for under 80 Euro including two pocket sized battery packs that last 30 minutes each, and a charger. It works pretty well and has a nice output.

What I did was look on ebay for used on-camera lights with broken battery cells. I found one built by Bauer-Bosch (don't know if that has something to do with Anton Bauer). It was a 6V 20W light with a shoe-mount adapter, the internal battery was dead. Bought it for 11 Euro (~15USD I think), took out the battery, soldered a cable to it instead. Then I bought two battery packs for model-race cars (NiMH 3300 mAH) with 7.2V and a diode that reduces voltage by 1V. The reason for this is the 7.2V battery packs are very common for race car models and therefore really cheap. I also got a charger for these batteries for 20 Euro.
I replaced the 20W lamp with a 35W Philips halogen lamp, built some cheap extensions to the lamp so I could clamp gels on it (it doesn't have barndoors).

I have used it quite a few times for private shooting, once even for a tv job. It never let me down, I am still amazed at how well it works, very much like much more expensive professional lights.

Hello Jason,

Vidled is the most popular by all means, at least with our clients:

Switronix also makes a pretty cool little light that a local TV Station purchased a bunch of:

kinda hard to understand that site. Are you saying the deluxe version doesn't come with a battery? You listed a charger and the rest of the accessories but no battery. How do we know whether its in stock or not?

The deluxe LED Series lights INCLUDE a li-ion battery pack inside the housing.

Has anyone used or seen used a Lux-Led-dv by bebob. It's relatively new from Germany I think. Kinda pricey also, but I wondered if it put out more light than a vidled.

It looks like Jib answered the first question. As far as stock is concerned, there is none and will be none for another 1-2 monthes. Vidled has had some issues with the company that handles their molds. Just keep calling in to see if we have them in yet.

For 7.50 cents the camping lights that conveniently fit around a shotgun mike... are a hell of a deal. I'd say check them out and at a least they are great camera bag lights or great for INT cards, etc.

I'm trying to find anything out about this ...

It looks pretty tidy - and I like the DVX/HVX battery integration - that's a deal breaker for me.

I may well end up just risking it and buying, though they aren't cheap @£500 quid over here in the UK.
