On board audio options for Canon 1DC

Hello community,

First off, I apologize for the noob-ness of this question, but I am hoping those who are better versed in audio functionality can help me here.

I am wondering what the best option would be for on board audio recording into the Canon 1DC. I have a Senhieser MKH416 and am looking to get the best audio possible. My research has lead me to believe that using the Sound Devices Mix Pre-D going straight into the camera body would be the best option, but I am wondering if I would ultimately get poor audio quality simply because I am using the DSLR as a recorder. Would there be a difference between a 1DC + SD Mix Pre-D vs recording straight into a Canon C300 for example?

All help greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
~Omar

dont know what the noise floor of the 1dc is but with my gh2 & gh3 i get noticeable better audio using a rode ntg3 (very similar to Senhieser MKH416) & SD mixpre-d directly into camera than i do using video mic pro - i would only really use that for atmosphere/syncing seperate audio

Thanks for the replies guys. The audio I get will be the only audio for the project, so I need it to be good. I've heard good things about the Rode Videomic Pro, but I do not think it will e as good as the Senheiser with SD mix pre d. Has anyone had any experience with dlsr+mix pre d vs Canon C300/C100, and if so, what is the difference?

Thats good to know ade4all about your gh2/gh3.

Thank you!

SD mix pre-d should should produce about the same sound quality as the one on C300. But Canon, in fact, all the HDSLR does not care the sound quality enough so far as, say Canon C300 only records 16-bit sampling. So a dual set-up for audio recording will be preferred. I think the SD mix pre-d will let you also hook up to an external recorder for 24-bit.

Does anyone know if it is possible to record to an internal CF card and external recorder at the same time on the 1DC? I am thinking to maybe record to a Sound Devices Pix 240 for sound (would also include video since it cannot be disabled) and simultaneously record to the internal CF card for primary picture.

Please see my post about Ninja 2, currently you can do that with all 1080p mode, but for 4K, there is a problem.

Thanks for the info marvinhello. That is really to bad it does not work. Can you point me to your post about the Ninja 2? I'd like to read more about it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. I hope they fix it soon.
