Olympus E-P2

The Olympus E-P2 is due for announcement somewhere next week with video-centric accessories like a new electronic viewfinder and an external microphone adapter. I don't think it's too far fetched to think that they may add more manual controls to it as well, making it a strong competitor to the GH1.

This thread is here since it's GH1 is part of the MicroFourThirds category. Ricoh is producing a mirrorless system heres to hoping for video.

EP2 looks attractive. Nice form factor. But for 950euros about 1400bucks. It better be 1080 24p.

I wisht the Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 lens is compatible with the GH1.

I've gotta say the black EP-2 looks amazingly ugly, especially with the white lens, and the bulky (but nice resolution) EVF.

At the price of the ep-2 with an EVF- getting a GH1 would be far far superior choice.

I love the look and feel of the GF1. I was so tempted to get the Full GF1 with 20mm lens kit instead of just the 20mm f1.7 for my GH1. Alas, financial sense prevailed. But I will likely buy the next G-series successor.

I was actually considering one of these (EP1/2 or GF1) as kind of a better LX3 because of the ability to just carry it around or whatever but why do they all have to insist on 30 fps?

Neither Olympus nor Pannie seem to to realize the value of on body stabilization for video. Olympus has it but no 1080p. Pannie stays with the wisdom of still photography that 20mm does not need stabilzation. Olympus stays at 720p, no24. Neither seems to understand m4/3 video requirements.

You might want to go and give them a try alongside your GH1, you might be surprised how little difference there is in size. I tried these both out the other day in a couple of camera shops and while I didn't have my GH1 with me, I had an E410, which is roughly the same size. Once you've put the EVF on one of these, there's really not a great deal of difference, especially if you had the pancake mounted on either. The LX3 is definitely more pocketable.

Still no IBIS for video!?

Still no IBIS for video!?

It appears that EP2 like EP1 still does not have IBIS for videoing. Thus while EP2 is slightly improved in someways, it is still too much a work in progress.

As for the "form factor," EP1 is not a small camera by any measure, despite its cute look in pictures.
