Asking LeavingtheCandy for help... urgently!

You MUST have 1.2 firmware for it to communicate with Panasonic cameras. You also MUST update the firmware on an Olympus camera and NOT a Panasonic as the firmware update instructions suggest. Hope this helps...I will write a detailed instruction asap.

I'd like to also clarify that this issue has NOTHING to do with grinding or any mechanical issues as some have asked through PM.

Hi LeavingtheCandy,

I've been going mad with this all day, I didnt realise there was anything to be done with firmware updates on a lens, great relief to find your post with the exact same issue. I really hope, as it did for you, this fixes it. I'm in NZ and returning the lens to B&H NY is not really an option. I have picture but the focus ring does nothing, nada.

I'm using a Panasonic adapter the DMW-MA1 - zoom fine, focus, squat.

I have no real grinding to speak of, and the lens looks in great condition, desperate to play and hoping you can help.

Did you ever put your detailed instruction together? I could really do with some help. Do I need to get the lens on an Olympus body to perform the update? Do I need to also update firmware on the AF100?

Thanks for your earlier posts, you at least make me think there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Best regards
Karl.

Do I need to get the lens on an Olympus body to perform the update? Do I need to also update firmware on the AF100?

I recently bought this lens from B&H. It came with firmware 1.1, which could not be updated with the AF100, because the lens must have firmware version 1.2 to communicate with Panasonic cameras. I took the lens to a local camera store where they let me mount the lens and my Panasonic DMW-MA1 adaptor on a new model Olympus camera with standard 4/3 sensor. We then connected the Olympus camera via USB to a computer with internet access, went to the Olympus website http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_downloads_updater.asp, downloaded the free Digital Camera Updater software, ran the Updater program, and the Updater automatically upgraded the lens firmware to 1.2.

I also updated the AF100's firmware separately via the Panasonic website https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft/upgaf100_e.htm.

Note that this lens is not perfectly compatible with the Panasonic AF100 no matter what you do. You will likely experience slow autofocus with subtle clicking noises. The low-level clicking can also be felt/heard when you rotate the lens barrel in manual focus mode. I've found the clicking on this Olympus lens to be an annoyance, but I like the exceptional image quality despite the imperfect functionality.
