Hi all,I am researching while saving for a AF100 to join my 160A and have been looking at the Olympus 14-35mm f2. Has anyone got this on a AF100? It is a big lens and only just in the weight limit for the AF mount, so I would love to read a review from any users and see some pics of what it actually looks like mounted. Cheers! Rod

Here is a comparison of the Olympus Zuiko 14-35 f/2.0 to the Lumix 14-140 f/4 - 5.6. It shows just how much more glass is needed to get those extra stops.

Hi Paul,
Thanks so much for that- its huge! I was thinking of using it as my standard lens rather than the Lumix 12-35 f2.8 as it would cover everything I do other than sport from the sidelines(I have the ac160A for that.)
But not sure whether the extra stop over the Lumix is worth the trade off for weight. (time to study the DOF tables again!) What are your experiences with it so far? pros cons etc. The shallow DOF appeals to me for interviews and technical close ups etc.
Cheers!

It's an excellent lens. If your work consists of shooting mostly cinema-style on a tripod, you'll be really happy with the quality. The extra stop has sometimes been a boon for me.

However, if you're doing a lot of run-n-gun, reports are that the 12-35 f2.8 is better-suited for that type of shooting.

You should arrange to try them both out first to decide.

Thanks John. No run'n'gun for me, (more walk slowly and throw the occasional rock!). Although, if I have to go mobile I use a Tiffen steadicam pilot and vest rig.
Virtually all of my work is tripod mounted so the weight is not really an issue. Unfortunately , living at the bottom of the planet with a total national population that has only just reached 4 million, (Shhh, we like it empty!) we do not have companies like B&H etc to try stuff out, so I tend to rely on you guys for feedback, so thanks for that!!
Cheers!

I haven't had a chance to use it on a real project, so I don't have a useful opinion about it yet. The only thing I have to say so far is that the aperture is noisy when it switches in auto-iris mode. I would normally use the lens in manual mode, so this doesn't bother me. I'm thinking the 14-35 and 35-100 would work for me. If I get happy with the 14-35, I'll probably get the 35-100.

I have one. It is a sweet lens. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably have gone with the Lumix 12-35 f2.8, but that was not an option when I purchased it two years ago. I would take the extra 2mm at the wide end over the extra f-stop. For me the weight is really not an issue (my Sachtler tripods can counter-balance much, much more) and neither is the size (I keep my cameras in the studio so I don't have to pack lenses and take them anywhere).

Hi Michael, well I took your experience on board and have now purchased the 12-35mm f2.8 lumix with a af102. ( see "joined the ranks at last!". Now awaiting delivery. Thanks for your comments, I too, was deliberating between the Olly and the Lumix- you swayed it for me! The difference in price gets me a Rokinon/Samyang prime at some point! Cheers! Rod.
