just bought the Olympus 14-35 f/2 and I And hesitate between
the " sing-ray ", for convenience and run &gun
Or buy several ND filters and a matte box and a rail system...?

thanks

I was thinking of buyng the singh ray but I m scared of the problems envolved with pola in some situations with cheaper vari ND...
and also to avoid problems with vignetting do I purchasse a 77 mm Thin Ring Mount or 82mm with step up ring ?

thanks

I use that lens on my GH2. One B+W ND or CP filter (non-slim) does not cause vignetting, however if you stack 2 of them, you get vignetting at the wide end. If you crop the image to 2.35:1 you won't see it.

Edit: I'm using 77mm filters.

While I do not own the Olympus 14-35, I do have a 77mm Singh Ray Vari-ND filter that has been useful for moving quickly.
A good set of ND grads can also do wonders for some scenes.

My advice... Get the Singh Ray Vari-ND first. It's less initial investment than a matte box and rail setup, and you will be able to use it with just about any lens you might get in the future with inexpensive step rings.
If I were going to invest in a baseplate rail setup and matte box at this point, I would get something that would work perfectly with any future camera purchase rather than exclusively DSLR. Things not to go cheap on... Filters. Always purchase the best filters you can afford in a size that will cover the majority of your lenses. Both filters and lenses are an investment that should give many years use.

Good Luck!
