GH3 Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8

"How much is IS worth to your shooting style" will be the question most will have to ask themselves.

I haven't seen it officially stated but is this lens weather sealed also? Its a pretty nice looking lens.

OIS is a "killer" feature, but the 12-35 suffers brief exposure & focus shifts during zooms, so best used as a variable prime. If the Olympus is free of these issues it will find a market.

Hopefully the Olympus' manual focus operation is truly smooth & not steppy like their 12mm's.

Doesn't their more expensive 14-35 f2.0 have an aperture shift while zooming similar to the Pany 12-35? Can't wait to see some reviews and footage from this lens. I think I am still leaning towards buying the 12-35 with IS at the moment but am holding tight till some real world examples of this new Oly zoom come out.

Lack of OIS could be a major pain with this lens. I really want to like this new lens but typically I have not been very impressed with the Olympus zooms for m4/3. I know Olympus users like them but I don't know very many Panasonic users that have been thrilled with the Olympus zooms. Outside of the 4/3 f2.0 zooms of course which were darn good lenses.

The price of the Olympus is cheaper but is it really that much cheaper? You can usually find really good deals on the Lumix 12-35. This lens would have to have stunning image quality and be parfocal to really have it appeal to most Panasonic users I think. Just my opinion of course and will wait to pass judgement until I see it in use.

I really can't wait till this Oly 12-40 hits the streets. On paper it is everything I am looking for in a lens but I wonder how much I would miss the IS of the 12-35. I really hope to see some comparisons soon. Is there any firm release date for this lens? All I can find are the odd 'tests' which look to be a re-interpretation of the press materials.

The Olympus is going to have to be an amazing lens optically to make it worthwhile over the Panasonic 12-35. You can find the 12-35 for the same price as that Olympus lens if you look around, the 12-35 is optically excellent, weather sealed and has IS. Overall, I cant see the Olympus 12-40 2.8 beating it.
