Olympic Coverage

I think the television coverage of the winter olympics is terrible. With all the options the network has and it's more like watching highlights. This seems like the worst coverage of any winter olympics yet. Or am I missing somthing? :eek:
 
I was just discussing this very thing with my wife last night. I don't understand why, in this age of digital television they can't set up 5 or 10 or 100 (however many they need) channels exclusively for the olympics and show ALL the events and EVERY execution EVERY person performs in each of those events.

Let ME decide what I want to watch, instead of assuming I want to see a highlight reel of 10 events and then hours of ice skating.
 
I care, in fact I think many do. But the coverage is weak at best, I agree. Too bad cause it's nice to see these kids come together to compete.

Agreed. And I don't think there's anything epic about curling. I can't believe it's a sport, or that people actually win gold medals doing it.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about. I had no idea it was an olympic event until a few days ago.

I guess it would be like adding shuffle board to the Summer Olympics. :confused:
 
i need to ask this question cause its bugging the heck outta me. where you guys live does your NBC affiliate that broadcasts the olympics also broadcast The Tonight Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien? cause we don't get those in the cleveland area cause of olympic coverage. i think they repeat the days coverage at night after the local news... if we're the only ones that are missing out on leno and conan i'm going to be pissed cause i hate watching david letterman cause i don't think the man is funny. and conan is my favorite and i'm starting to go into withdrawls without watching the show....

anyway... anyone else getting leno and conan aired by them or is it really just cleveland area?
 
Here in SoCal we're getting "The Olympic Tonight Show with Jay Leno" It starts later, though. No Conan.
 
now is leno the same as usual or is it all olympic stuff? well at least there aren't new episodes of Conan that i'm missing...

I don't think its that they don't care anymore, I think it has more to do with the fact that ten years ago it was the major sporting event on TV, now there are more than five different sports channels providing just about anything you might want to watch 24 hours a day. The Networks still produce the Olympics the same way they might produce a college basketball tournament.

I think what makes the Olympics special is not the sport but the sacrifice the athletes made to get there which culminates in the performance of their lives. It really takes the games to a whole other level. These are human interest stories not just a collection of sporting events. NBC has stripped something from the experience by simply trying to show the highlights and the sports they think people want to watch.

This is what happens when you try to produce something based on ratings or popularity poles. Although if you think about it, because of the volume of coverage from all sporting events, the audience is getting a lot more selective about what and how they watch these kinds of programs. I’m not sure how they should change their coverage of the Olympics, but they should.

I can't answer that because I'm asleep by then. ;) But I did see a replay of a Cheney shooting joke so I figure it's the regular show.
 
How can you guys be true Conan fans and not know where he is at the moment?

True that he's on a break due to the olympics.
But he's crrently here in Finland! He's been here since saturday shooting material for the show. He even met his idol, our President, Tarja Halonen today.

YES FINLAND!!! i wonder if he'll meet tarja hallonen (sp?)? that would be sweet!!!
