Old School Gaming

So... I bought my wife an original NES System for her birthday, and it arrived today. She absolutely LOVES the Mario Bros games, and I am looking forward to re-living my childhood as well! We had an NES when I grew up until the N64 came out in 1997. Loved playing Mario, Duck Hunt, Blades of Steel, Double Dribble, Paperboy, and of course Tecmo Super Bowl!

Anyone else here enjoy the old school games? Sometimes they're even more fun and charming than the graphic marvels of today.

i had tecmo bowl for gameboy. i STILL play that game!

They're fun for a few minutes usually but after playing Battlefield and COD these days ? Nothing comes close !

I think these days we're no longer happy with a cup-and-ball, unless it lights up, has gps, and can wi-fi connect with your friend across the globe...

I blame moore's law.

Unfortunately I'm like that too. COD and BF all the way! Hooah!

There's a certain simple difficulty about older NES and some SNES games too that today's games just can't compare to... The new school games that come out on the xbox arcade that are simple and make you think are the most enjoyable (anyone play the game Limbo?) to me and they are most like older games than newer ones.

I don't know how many times I worked to beat all the Mega Man games, renting them constantly from the local store... and all kinds of castle quest games, of which the names I can't remember... and of course all of the legend of Zelda series. Also several games that I NEVER beat, and to this day I probably still couldn't. (Castlevania 3, Battletoads, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES to name a couple)

I think that the internet has completely changed video games. When I was playing The Legend of Zelda, it took me (no exaggerating) a year and a HALF to find the 7th dungeon. I wasn't "blessed" enough to have Nintendo Power, and neither were any of my friends. Now there's hints /cheats / tricks everywhere.

arges, Limbo was quite an amazing game. So simple, and so difficult at the same time.
