Old LOMO Anamorphic Attachment on a DSLR camera (35 NAP 2-3M 80-140)

Hey anamorphers, I have an opportunity to exchange my big 35 NAP 2-3M 80-140 for 35 NAP 2 80-120. What do you think about? I think I can mount that lens without problems with back diameter 83mm.

If you go that way, you will have to make sure that:
- the whole camera+lenses kit is solid, without actual connection between the 2 lenses we will need some sort of rubber ring to make sure the lens does not move. Rods will be the best solution here.
- some rubber front ring on your spherical lens so the anamorphic glass doesn´t get scratched in the back
- make sure there is no light leaking through the gap. a rubber ring again could be the solution

This is another option: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5062/5606167308_7d5ee1356f_z.jpg

I also have that same 35mm lomo cine lens at home, so I might try that route as well. Or maybe I will sell it. I don't know yet.

Hello,

I'm a first time user on here and am a young film maker from Australia. I have been looking at the various exotic anamorphic options out there and came across this thread and a Russian one which was lost in translation unfortunately so I figured I would get more answers here.

Currently there are a couple on ebay in the $100-$150 range. First question is how does the focusing system works: Do you just focus your prime lens or do you focus both the prime and anamorphic?

What is the minimum focus distance, something like 9 meters I believe. How have you managed to get close ups? I saw a video on vimeo (https://vimeo.com/28186244) this guy custom making some diopters purchased from a glasses store. Do you have any recommendations for this lens?

With mounting seems like there are some heavy duty solutions to mount this lens, I was wondering though how the back of the lens actually attaches to the front of the prime lens. The rest seems quite clear with various rig and rail set ups, can’t quite get my head around that part of it though. This is some footage which intrigued me with both the sharpness, color and flair quality possible:

On the Russian forum I got the impression they were questioning the backstage photos, saying it might have been photoshopped to look like that? Would you be able to fake that kind of bokeh in Photoshop though?

I guess I’m just after your first hand experience with this lens and how you have found shooting with it and if it would be worth it?

My set up would be a Canon 550d (soon to be upgraded to either a GH2 or possibly a full frame camera like the 6D) with a Helios 58m lens. These are the two on ebay which I was looking at :

I know this is a long message, I would be very grateful for any feedback you can give me :)

Kind Regards
