Old Clock Flip

I'm looking for a simple way to "flip" a word to another word, much like what happens what a clock changes time. One of those alarm clocks that the numbers flip down. It's not digital, but it's not a clock with a face either. I don't know if that makes sense.

My current idea:
Layer one (3d) keyframed at one position.
rotate along the x axis 180 degrees.

Problem: This will show the top half of the number as it goes down. I need the bottom half of the new number to appear instead.

That's the principle I'm looking for. I'm also in a rush, so I apologize if that wasn't clear. Let me know if I need to explain further. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Your description is a bit confusing to me

Do you mean a flat sheet flipping (kind of like a rolodex or a calendar)?

Or do you mean an old clock where the numbers are actually on a cylinder and they rotate?

Or do you mean the other style clock, where the number just "drops" into place, from top to bottom, on top of the older number like a layer?

The first one. They just flip down. But on the back of the top half of a 1 is the bottom half of a two, so when it flips down, it's now the bottom of the two. Make sense?

So how did it go? I know you were under a deadline. Interested to know if you achieved
the result you were looking for.

Thanks! That first shot of the clock actually really helped me visualize what was going on. I guess I never thought how deep those number plates would have to be. Pretty neat.

After two failed attempts, I knew it was going to take too long to get to work. When I got in to work this morning, I went without. Maybe with more time it could have looked good, but I didn't want to create something sloppy. The clock flip was my idea, and they never knew I was even trying it, so they didn't know it didn't work out, either. They seemed really pleased with what I was able to come up with, and in a few hours they'll be presenting to the big dogs.

Thanks again for all the help!
