Old article, but funny in retrospect...

While looking up info on today's NAB meeting, I came across this "announcement" from 2004... apparently Panasonic had planned for a $3,000 P2 camera to be released in September of this year. Somehow, I'm going to assume this idea is dead, but regardless, the article is funny. My personal favorite is the comment from the first user, on April 19th, 2004:

"Awesome accept for one thing . . .
SEPTEMBER 2006?????
WHO CARES?????

By then I will have had to buy another company's camera. I'm not saying I won't get this when it comes out, but in the mean time, I'll settle for HDV with it's crappy 25Mbs cap!!!

I just hope this thing has got MUCH BETTER than that, because if it doesn't, Panasonic is wasting it's time. Every other company will have already swallowed the market with earlier versions. Hey PAN, you NEED 24p and DEFINITELY CINE-LIKE GAMMA. If your making us wait that long, you also better make it 4:2:2 and a minimum of 100Mbs. Then you'll have a chance to take business back.

Hope you listened!!!!!!!!"

Hmmm... I guess somebody did listen... :)

Anyway, here's the link to the article: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/panasonic-p2-flash-pro-04_18_04.htm

The 3CCD consumer-HD-cam that was presented by Panasonic at CeBit 2006 could be in the 3000 USD range.... it works with SD cards and is about the same size...

But that mock-up from the article is just one of the 3 mock-ups I know for a Super8-reminding HD-consumercam. The 3CCD consumer-HD-cam at CeBit had NOT that look, but was a mock-up either.

As the release-date did not change since 2004, I really believe there will be some consumer HD-cam towards end 2006 and I'm very sure that it will work with solid-state memory (all 4 design-studies so far were told to work with solid-state memory...) but who knows what and when and how exaclty that thing will be...
