Sorry in advance for all the questions. Long time reader, first time poster.
First off, if anyone in OKC has P2 cards, P2 Store, FS-100, or an HVX200 in OKC let me know. I've got a documentary project starting (30 min. for broadcast and musuems) and I want to shoot it on the HVX200 but I'm concerned that all the portable harddrive systems are bleeding edge technology (price, avialability, reliabilty, speed, and capicity concerns). Part of me would like to buy the HVX200 and rent p2 etc., but because my shooting will be irregular (mostly interviews based on avialibility) it seems uneconomical to rent outside of OKC. Any thoughts or vendor suggestions, maybe ones in Dallas, or should I just bite the bullet and buy?
Also, how many people are shooting DVPRO50 instead of HD? It seems like it would save money on capicity, be easier to work with, and easier to distibute. Any thoughts on this? Or 16x9, which sounds tempting to me. And lets say I do shoot it DVCPro50, 16x9. How do I get it ready to broadcast without quality loss? Transfer house or deck rental or an AVI to the station on harddisk?
I've got Avid Express Pro, do I need HD version for DVCPRO 50? And if I bought a laptop, couldn't I put my software on it and just borrow my dongle from my desktop editing station while shooting? And does laptop acquisition make sense for interviews. I know all these questions have been discussed before, but I'm still on the fence and need to decide quickly, so any thoughts and opinions would be helpful.
