OKC Sunset

I got my HVX Friday afternoon but wasn't able to take it out for a spin until late Saturday afternoon. So these are my first shots out of the box. Everything is in full auto, no filters, no adapters and all hand held. It was a mad dash to get across town to the lake before sunset, but I made it just in time. Definately could have been shot better, but hey I was so giddy to finally use it, I was lucky to remember to turn it on. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Footage looks nice. What an absolutely wonderful location to shoot more footage. I'd also say that this would be the perfect place to do a timelapse.. especially if you have some clouds in the sky. Warning: Timelapse shooting is addictive and the results will completly take over and consume your shooting.

I've probably done 30 timelapses now. The first few were tests and came out pretty bad. There's quite a lot of decisions to make when you start out that directly affect the end quality and result... but that's part of the fun. Just make your decision on exposure and such and leave it alone.. and you'll have money.

I think if you stop down the lens and shoot a high shutter.. that sunset shot going behind the horizon would be the cats MEOW....

Where did you shoot this?

Thanks Justyn for the tips. I will definately try that later this week. And I know I will become a time lapse addict once I get around to it.

That was shot at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. It's in the middle of the city, but you would never know it just looking at the footage. Its always been a favorite place for me when shooting stills, so I figured it would be a good place to try out the hvx.

Is the noise I'm seeing from the camera or the web compression?

I'm not trying to start another noise complaint thread, I'm just curious.

Mostly from the compression. When I watch the footage back on my plasma I don't see that amount of noise. There is some there, but no where near the amount the compressed clip is showing.

Not bad.

It doesn't have quite the saturation of colors I'm used to seeing when I shoot sunsets and such with the DVX though it may be simply that I set my colors differently.

A lot of that has to do with all the fires we are having. We usually have beautiful sunsets with magenta and orange hues, but all the smoke from the wildfires is creating a bad haze. I'm going to go back this week, or after NAB. I will have had more time with the camera and hopefully the state will have stopped burning.

I'm in OKC myself and you're right. Lately the sunsets have been crappy. We haven't had much cloud cover this year. Usually we have storms and lightning and AMAZING sunsets. It's just been kind of dull.

That explains it. I've just photographed SO many sunsets with the DVX100 that I was a bit surprised.

Very true John. The camera really has the ability to handle a lot more than my old DV cams. I had a great looking sunset but it was kind of gray and lackluster.. but poof, a little CC and magnificant color galore. Crushing the blacks also seemed to really make a lot of the noise disappear and all that.

Aelent, like the footage and when Oklahoma finally stops burning that place has some definite potential.

I have been there a few times, eating at those amazing restaurants. Im grew up in Muskogee, Ok....I have been living in LA for the past year.

Keep shooting bro.
