okay avid... hvx200

okay so here is what i have right now:
an hvx 200a
a core turnkey avid computer with mojo dx and mc 3.0
a 42 in hd tv hooked up to mojo

now for my problem. i see alot of footage out there that looks beautiful. no matter what i try for settings i am unble to clean up all the artifacts in the footage. did i waste my money buying all this stuff? the footage that i am getting on here is the same quality as the stuff i got on my laptop. im just really sad about this whole thing and i don't even think that this mojo thing is doing anything...

No computer is gonna change the fact you are shooting at 5:1 compression in a 4:1:1 world of color, man. Quality-wise, you'll be spitting the same thing out on an Inferno as you would with Windows Movie Maker.
Use 1:1 on graphics, renders, mixdowns and imports.
Outside of that you are bound to hiding the artifacts like most of us. I color-treat every shot that comes through my box and I have my favorite looks. I like to crush the blacks and more often than not, I like to soften and darken the edges of the screen a bot, even when shooting in 16X9... maybe especially whith 16X9 ftg.
I like cinemition and I like genarts sapphire's film effect. I use it for color correction more then Avid's cc.
If you are spitting out flat, untreated video, man it's gonna look flat and un-treated.

Well, you say HVX-200A, but neglect to mention what format you shot...and how you imported. Avid has native support for MXF files that the HVX shoots, no matter what format you shoot. And that camera shoots 81 different formats (including frame rates).

So this begs the question, what format did you shoot? And are you monitoring this on an external HD monitor...not SD monitor...with this turnkey system?

I think he said the 42 inch tv is HD but if it is a best buy lcd tv it'll have a lot of noise in it, not all of that is from the hvx. Most of it comes from the large lcd hd tv's.

wow thanks guys. orgionally i was trying to shoot in 1080i. i then figured out the problem was that avid does not have a project format for 1080i 24p witch is what we shot the footage in onlp 1080p, if i am not mistaken. so once i figureed out that the project format needs to be the same as what i shot in the quality came. the monitor that we are using is a hd lcd. the 120 hz ones and it is clean enough for us right now. i guess my biggest obstacle is to try to figure out how to convert footage before the edit.? we are shooting alot of stock video footage and we want to be able to sell it as different formats.

sorry about the post it started kind of bad and at the end of 15hrs of work just to find out i was simply overlooking something simple. thanks

If you have an hvx Edius is the easiest for P2 and converting the footage to whatever format you want. Pro editing Avid, ease and speed of converting footage it's edius.
