Ok, this is weird

Just a few minutes ago I got up to switch off my DVX100A (it was still on from some random video I shot). I had thought the dishwasher was running or something, but I realized it was coming from the camera. I stuck my ear up to the bottom (where the noise was the loudest) and it sounded exactly like there was a 2.5" or 3.5" hard drive inside. I can hear the head moving and everything.

Now, unless there's something I don't know, I don't think there's a hard drive in my camera. What could this be? Is it serious? Has this happened to anyone before?

Was it the tape rewinding?

There really aren't any other moving parts other than in the tape transport.

Or, was the tape PLAYING?

Nothing on the computer, and it's not coming out of the headphone jack. I can take the tape out and the noise persists. I can't see anything in the tape area spinning either.

I sound like someone jammed a PC in there when I wasn't looking.

Doesn't the optical image stabilization system have a motor in it?

Check to see if the noise stops when you switch to VCR mode. Mine is louder in camera mode, always has been, but I neglected to get it checked out while it was under warranty.
