Ok Mr. Dashwood

I get that the P+S Technik is pretty expensive... but what about the red rock micro? Is it possible to use say Nikon prime lenses with that system? Beside the red rock micro unit and lenses what would I need to get? I hear that they're not the most reliable company. That they take up to eight weeks to ship and I recently emailed them about HD100 compatibility (2-3 days ago) and they haven't responded. Quite unprofessional if you ask me... anyways... I'm concerned to know if there is a more affordable package. Rentals are out of the question for me because the type of work I do doesen't allow a lot of lead time, and things change rather quickly.......... I'm curious to know if there's a more affordable sub 5k system that will allow me to achieve good shallow depth of field? I want to leave no stone unturned....

There are many DIY and homebrewed options - none of which will give you the German engineering of P+S, but they will save $$$.
Redrock micro35 is one. SG35, Guerilla35, Letus35 to name a few. They all use the same concept, but attach to the end of the video lens and then you macro focus onto the ground glass. I've been building my own DIY with a Nikon D groundglass and M42 (T) mount to get an interesting 1920's look. A very big quality difference compared to the P+S mini35 though.
