As said in my previous threads / postings I'm a "newbie" to the GH4, about a week into it but of course there's still many questions and more and more are coming up as I get into this camera's possibilities and choices. So I am starting this as a new thread because it's away from the others I've posted regarding cage choices, S16 lens usage, and so on. Big help extended there, thanks guys...
I've an inbred aversion to menus, for me it's the prime curse in the transition from many years shooting film to the new digital reality. Gone, mostly, are the days when the only colour science and image choices to be made was reading what the film type was on the can, a hell of a lot simpler in my book, but there you go.....and here we are.
So anyway, I need help and advice as to the best way to lock in set-ups on the GH4. I will only be using this camera for filming, not for stills, ( I can't get on with using an EVF for stills ).
I've realised that for most of the time my uses on the GH4 the camera will be recording in HD, to have the 4K option is great, but 75% of the imagining at this time need not go beyond HD.
So, I've managed to confuse myself royally these past few days in trying to set up a few options so it's easy to switch from one set-up to another without wading through the menu tree again and again. I think I've re-set the camera a dozen times when having to start over with a clean slate, and gone half blind / crazy trying to read the manual!
This is what I think I need by way of easily switched choices, ( using the C1 C2 C3 etc options ??? ).
1/ Highest quality HD 1080p PAL
2/ Highest quality HD 1080p NTSC
* can I set/choose 24/25 fps in HD settings, can't find that option.
3/ 4K "Cinema" Raw
All internal recording at this point.
I have already tried the Medgyesi Supertone image settings and I like them, so for now at least I would like to retain those settings as a base throughout the HD/4K options.....And I would want to shoot in RAW at all times.
Every time I have tried to set these choices up and save them as preferred settings in C1 C2 C3 etc, one or another of the settings changes drastically and I've not been able to lock in the three setups so I can switch from one to the other easily. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure out what that is. Frustrating, but that's me and menus....
So is there a good way of doing what I need?
I would appreciate clues, advice and pointers at this stage.......Thanks!
