I need a pc built from newegg.I have no clue really what i am looking at i know i just want a good gfx card in it. My budget is 700-800 dollars. Thanks poeple much appreciated!!

amd goes with ati, if your going with nvidia, then go with intel.
What? Just because AMD owns ATI does not mean their hardware is incompatible with the other companies. More so, Nvidia and Intel have been at each other's throats for quite a while now over legal disputes, so there's no advantage to that pairing either.

The reality is that for most video work, nvidia has CUDA on its GPUs, which for many applications (including Premiere, particularly in upcoming CS5), offers great speed advantages. However, ATI in benchmark after benchmark, and due to nvidia constantly repackaging its GPU chipsets, has bested Nvidia's cards in overall performance.

For your needs, nvidia is probably the way to go, but if you can wait a few months, wait for their new Fermi line of cards (the GF100 I believe), as they're supposed to finally compete with ATI's present offerings, and of course, will offer CUDA support.

For gaming and all other GPU needs, I'd recommend ATI.

Yeah i was looking to get this gfx card for the rig http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4&cm_re=radeon_hd_5770-_-14-102-864-_-Product cause it had 2 dvi plus a hdmi but since you said cuda works better with cs4 and upcoming 5 then i will go with nivdia intel instead of amd.

i didn't say hardware incompatible!

motherboards for amd almost always have ati chipset on it tho, where if you wanted nvidia chipset, you would go intel, not sure about the benchmarks you mention, lower priced ati cards vs power efficient nvidia maybe, that must be it. some nvidia cards are specifically built for power efficiency and they do exactly what they are supposed to.

but in reality nvidia cards are usually better overall.

This is the rig i was looking to build what do you think??
javascript:Biz.WishList.Common.selectOne('WishListForm','chkItems', false);

something that will actually make the system faster, would be save a bit on most of the things comparable in performance like the processors the ram, etc... and get a small raid, if the mother board has the option go for that. that will be the most noticeable increase in performance.

it was something in the same price range of the readon card you posted that had 2xdvi and hdmi.

gtx 240 is 1/2 the gpu performance of the 260.

i don't think you will notice the difference in the video editing software. you can notice the difference in games or 3d software.

if the money will go to something you thing you will use more or get more overall performance out of it, go for it.

Okay lets get a few things sorted out,

On the CPU end of the scale, Intel are streaks ahead of AMD
You cant even compare them atm.

Graphics side, ATI is more powerfull than nVidia BUT vvideo editing isn't very graphic card intensive at this present time.

Premiere will soon be able to take advantage of CUDA technologvy wich will make editing much easier and rendertimes shorter. But for cuda you need a quadro card.

Okay so i7 and nvidia quadro.

If you streatch your budget to just over $1000 then you will have the ability to get a dual i7 system.

+1 agree with this post completely. I used to build AMD systems (built a Dual AMD BP6 system years ago) but since switching to Intel for editing my life has been easier.

Good timing, Anandtech just published a new sub-$1000 build guide --
http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=3739

Do you think i7 is better than AMD?

No doubt. i5/i7 is in first place for sure right now. The i7 860 is the one to go with. The i5 750 doesn't have hyperthreading, the i7 920 is neck-and-neck with the 860 in the benchmarks but has inferior "turboboost" (power gating) and requires a much more expensive motherboard, and the i7 870 offers fairly modest performance gains for double the price.

something that will actually make the system faster, would be save a bit on most of the things comparable in performance like the processors the ram, etc... and get a small raid, if the mother board has the option go for that. that will be the most noticeable increase in performance.

I doubt it. Maintaining a RAID is pretty processor-intensive (when those shoddy motherboard-based software RAIDs actually work at all, which in my experience is never) and can actually slow your system down.

Now if he actually bought a RAID card with its own processor to offload all that from the CPU...

But those cost a couple hundred bucks AND often require a more expensive motherboard to get the extra x4 or x8 slot to put it in.

You can get a raid card now with onboard spu for about £100 thats about $200 direct currency conversion, not sure how much it would to buy from somewhere like new egg.

You've also got to think about why choose that speed.

Is it just because of the high fsb = better performance, no, a high fsb improves compatibility.
