i'm shooting with a dolly for the first time in a few weeks and am wondering should the OIS be on or off when the camera is being pushed on a dolly!?

also... if i have the camera on a tri-pod, but am jerking it around while filming a rock band... should i have it on or off?

please help!! thanks!

Don't have it on when you are on tripod. OFF on sticks.. On for handheld. I'd say to have if off the dolly as well, if you are on sticks.

OIS only works well for handheld shake, relatively large movements over a relatively large time. Any type of organized vibration can be made worse by OIS, and if you are moving smoothly, OIS can add a jerkyness to it.

If you're trying to make it look like the camera is not moving, that's when you'd use OIS. If you're putting the camera on a dolly, obviously you want it to look like it's moving, therefore you definitely don't want OIS.

If you're shooting handheld, typically you want to make it look like it's not moving so much, which is why you'd want OIS.

If you're using the camera on a tripod, and you want to pan, then you actually *want* that movement, so OIS is bad when using a tripod. If you're shooting an absolutely locked-down shot with no panning, then OIS doesn't matter.

Added question: If you have camera on a tripod and are keeping it completely still, does OIS on have any effect at all, or is it only in effect when the camera is panning? Let's say you're shooting a merry-go-round, and the camera is absolutely static. Will the footage stutter?
