OIS problem...jerky

I've noticed that the OIS has been acting up on my HVX. It seems to skip or jump when panning real slow. Interestingly, this only happens when I pan right or tilt up. At first I thought it was my head or tripod but have seen this occur on different heads and tripods as well. Anyone else experience anything like this? It never happend on my DVX.

It's doing exactly what you would expect it to do.

You're supposed to turn OIS off when using the camera on a tripod. What's happening is that the OIS is seeing gentle movement in the frame and it's compensating -- it's trying to "stabilize out" the movement. But the prism can only move so far until it runs out of room, at which point it "jumps" by resetting itself.

If you turn OIS off, none of that will happen.

Turn OIS off whenever you're using any other type of stabilizing device.

I never noticed this with my DVX or XL-1. OIS makes a huge differnce when at full zoom.
