Offload memory card to on-the-go hard disk

In Barry Green's excellent book he says it is possible to offload memory card contents directly to a USB2 On-The -Go portable hard drive. Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea? I have a Western Digital Passport but I haven't been able to try it yet since it uses a standard USB cable, not a mini.

Any feedback on offload speed (w/out verify) from AVCHD cards on the UDMA model? On the old Colorspace are a bit low around 5MB/sec. CF transfer is 3x around 15 MB/sec. Class 10 for the AVCHD cards.

I'd look into the much more expensive Nexto(s) instead of the UDMA. They have various levels of data verification, & download fast.

Nexto has added some new models recently, & I'm unsure which would best suit your needs.

I use the NEXTO. I sometimes use P2 and SxS cards (obviously not with AF-100). Rock solid. I think the "copy and verify" is maybe just a tad paranoid :-). Fast copy works fine for me. But I do not erase the master SD cards until I'm sure everything is okay in post.
