Official Clerks II thread

ok just got back from Clerks II. hilarious! i loved it! the writing was great as usual and smith did great with the film. there are just way too many things to quote from the movie but can't cause it violates a LOT of rules.

worth seeing. it had a good story and great writing. go see it.

For months I've been saying that there is no way in hell I'm going to see this film, but now I'm sort of thinking about going. What turns me off to it was the fact that the NYTimes actually gave it a positive review and the fact that I think I outgrew Kevin Smith about a half decade ago...

And Jersey Girl, I want my money back for that POS.

I might see it, but most likely will just wait the six weeks until it's on DVD.

Netflix FTW

This is easily Kevin Smith's best film.

It's so great, that i'd almost like to present to Mr. John Hudson his words regarding Kevin Smith being a hack in hopes that he would eat them.

But Mr. Hudson scares me, and I don't want him mad at me.

Seriously though, see it and see if you still think he is a total, utter, unrelented hack. I'd like to hear your input on it.

It's kinda like putting Jersey Girl's narrative structure type stuff with the jokes of Clerks. So it's pretty much him combining the best parts of the two (thankfully there's more Clerks in the movie than there is Jersey Girl influence) and making a "real" movie.

I don't know if i'd say it was his best movie, but i definitely enjoyed it. If you don't like Kevin's older stuff you probably still won't enjoy this. I must say however it does seem different since there's more camera movement then usual, but it had some good laughs and it was touching :)

You could definitely tell that it was his last flick with these characters. There were lots of very introspective character moments, and we had plenty of opportunities to say good bye to these characters that we (well, I) have grown up with. We know that they've finally got their **** together (as much as possible) and are going to be 'okay' in that Clerks kind of way.

I nearly cried at the end. A saga is over.

Good times. Even the camera moves were better in this one.

*Spoiler*

While the donkey scene was disgusting, it has to be one of my all time favorite scenes. There was SO much going on, and the fact that it was all taking place during a pseudo donkey show made it that much... funnier? ironic? clever? I don't know how to end that sentence, but I dug it.

I just got off work and I'm going to see it in 3.25 hours. I'll post my thoughts then.

This is going to be the first filmm I've seen in theatres in nearly 8 months. I rarely eveer go becuase it's all mostly sh!t or for the simple fact that I hate annoying audiences.

I think I'll tough it out for Clerks II though.

My cheeks still hurt. From the minute the film began until the last credit rolled, I was on the verge of peeing myself. Dogma remains my favorite Smith flick; however, Clerks II solidly holds position #2. In spite of "more camera movement" (however THAT makes it a better film) - it was clearly a KS movie. And by that I mean technical bumps and bruises all over. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the films, but they are what they are. I also appreciate that the shot the thing for 5 million. Studios blow lots more cash than that all the time on film I wouldn't wipe myself with.

Kevin Smith did a fantastic job. I wouldn't say this is his best work (Dogma, Chasing Amy) but he has grown as a director despite what critics say.
He moves the camera, great visuals, funny, great dialogue.
By far, Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) is brilliant is this picture. He carries the film, you feel for him with what he's going through.
kevin Smith wrote this because he had something to say and I think everyone who watches the movie will be impressed.

Just got back from seeing it.

It felt good being in a theatre after all this time, right up until the power went out THRICE during the show after the bowels of heaven opened up and shat out thunder and lightning and rain, oh my!

BUT, I got through the picture and I can honestly say that this, although not his best film (Amy, Clerks), is among his funniest (JSBSB). It also supported my belief that Smith is one of the best writers of dialogue in the biz.

The highlight is definitely Randal. Without a doubt. After 12 years, Jeff Anderson stepped right back into character like no time had passed what-so-ever, and virtually outdid himself. There's one moment in the film, the Smashing Pumpkins "1979" is playing, there is a montage of shots of all the characters, and that dolly on Randal just sitting there, thinking about...life...it's just perfect.

This movie has a surprising amount of heart. It would have been a lesser film without it.

Rosario Dawson is perhaps at her hottest. Maybe it's the glasses, but she looks better in this film than in any other I have seen her in before. The supporting cast is fantastic.

There's not much more that I can say without getting into spoilers about the gags.

It's not Shakespear, but I'll be damned if it's not entertaing.

Highly reccommended for Smith fans and lovers of the foul.

i thought the dance scene was hilarious

Dido to that!

Though I must admit, if I am a fanboy of anything, it would have to be Kevin Smith. That being said, I have been a fan of Kevin through thick and thin.

Clerks, though not well-acted, good-looking, or technically inspiring, it had a lot of heart. I loved it.

Mallrats: funny, but in the stupid kind of way. Still loved it.

Chasing Amy showed us that Kevin has more to show us than "dick and fart jokes". Loved that one as well.

Dogma, one of the first religious movies that actually made sense in its own kinda way. Of course I loved it. I would say it is his best.

Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. I thought it was very funny, especially if you have seen the other. It also had Will Ferrel. Though I laughed really hard, it is in the same league as Mallrats: funny but stupid.

Jersey Girl.

Yeah.

After so many years, i have to say that Clerks II is my absolute favorite. I think Dogma is his best, but the one I enjoyed the most was BY FAR Clerks II. The movie has heart (as said earlier), it is the funniest (i have never laughed so hard), and it looked great. Loved it Loved it Loved it. All I can say is thank you Kevin. It was said best earlier in this thread: Kevin had something to say. And he said it.

Wow.

While Clerks is my all time favorite by KS, Clerks II may be a close second. The film is a nice closure to the series, but it is painfully sappy and predictable at the end. Rosario Dawson is a shining point in this film, and I was a bit disappointed in the straying of dialog that is usually Smith's strongpoint. However, it was funny. Damn funny. Plus, dare I say... heartwarming? For those that saw it, I am referring to the Go-cart scene and the montage to Sashing Pumpkins' 1979.
It's very good if you're a Smith fan.

Yes he is.

But this movie was a riot.

The dance scene was a personal fav.

As was pillowpants.

I'm still laughing over that one.

Well after debating and making fun of this idea for months I went and saw the friday early morning show for $4. I'm glad I saw that show because to pay anymore would have been wasteful.

I've been a big KS fan, but I really think that he is just played out at this point. He had something to say and he really concluded things with these characters, but the heart that people are talking about is the same thing that bothered me about Jersey Girl. It just wasn't needed.

I thought that this film, which did make me laugh at a few points, was just a conclusion to a storyline everyone had said goodbye to 12 years ago. I left Clerks never wondering what happened to Dante and Randal and not really caring. I left Clerks 2 knowing what happens to them and still not caring.

The writing is witty, offensive, thought inspiring and filled with more pop culture references than a Dennis Miller monologue, but I still felt that the story itself was light.

Kevin Smith might have finally had something to say, but I can't see who wants to listen.

I'll stick with Dogma and Chasing Amy.

Kevin Smith made this film because he had something to say. The whole point wasn't "I wonder what Dante and Randal are up to?", the whole point is what life is like being in your 30s for our generation. Our parents generation, they were already married and had children, now 30 and up is when most people settle down.
I did enjoy and laugh, it was well done. I also loved the dance homage to John Hughes. The reason why Kevin continues to make little films is because they all turn a profit and that's why the Weinsteins keep him around.

I really like clerks II and, IMHO it is his best film. It's hilarious, although maybe not as much as the original, but all the sappy stuff is what got me. The movie, just like the characters, has grown up emotionally, and is all about what do you want to do with your life now. If you took out all the jail cell stuff and filled that time with really funny jokes, I wouldn't like it nearly as much.

Hilariously vulgar, with (im gunna say it) heart. who knew?

BTW, I totally bought that Rosario dawson was actually into Dante. That itself is an amazing feat. Bravo Kevin Smith!

I think I laughed three times. Smith is a total hack of a director. I usually enjoy his writing, but this movie is weak. And his wife's image should never be recorded in any medium ever again: she looks like Skeletor's anorexic daughter.

I wouldn't say it was his best, but in ways it was better than the others. Clerks just hits a certain spot, ya know? But Mallrats is my fav, even though I can't exactly say why.
