office jitter short.

I would suggest you crunch the file dramatically. 65mb for something you are not salivating over is not very enticing for anyone.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't have an un-rar tool on my system and since I don't use RAR for anything I am not inclined to install it just to watch this film. Sorry.

yes.. i figured this would be a problem.. I dont know how to compress it well enough. everything i have tried has turned it into crap.

i started with a 1.7 gig dv file.

im trying to run it through after effects. But im not having much luck. I understand.. I wouldnt want to download this either.

any suggestions?

I can upload a more compressed file for you if you like, otherwise download QUICKTIME 7 yourself, and use H.264 compression.

id have to get pro in order to create video with that codec right? right now Im compressing it as a wmv at 320x240 to see what will happen.

By the way, as constructive criticism:

1) You need to shorten it CONSIDERABLY: it takes 3 minutes for him to walk from car to office chair!
2) You need lights! Home Depot $15-jobs would of improved this area.
3) Computer monitor flicker can easily be avoided by syncing monitor frequency to cam's shutter speed.
4) It needs a story
5) Music is "not that good".
6) Steadicam shots are "not that steady".
7) Many shots had the talent's head out of frame

On a positive note: editing (apart from length) was quite good, and compositions were decent.

...but I bet you had a great time making the short, and learned a lot, so my guess is it was VERY WELL worth the effort.
Keep it up!

yeah we had fun making it. we knew that the lighting would suffer.. we also knew it was going to be shaky. and the sound terrible. but it was just something we wanted to quickly film in the 2 hours we had. it was more of an experiment. the office chair that we used as a dolly was not very smooth.. and the tripod had a busted head, so we couldnt lock the camera to it.. It just sat there.

I know its incredibly boring- the whole walking in shot. but that was the whole point. I wanted to just show how dumb an office job could be. Like my daily routine is exactly what you saw on the video. Its so pointless and makes me very anxious and jittery. Hence the name office jitter.

I appreciate your crits. I know there is a lot to pick apart on this. And thats ok. I wasnt initially going to post it because it was poorly done. But after 6 months I figured, what the heck.

Hey 3d,
all points are understandable.
You have a achieved the main thing: and that is a finished product which was fun to make and a good learning experience. There's not much more you can ask for really.

"I know its incredibly boring- the whole walking in shot. but that was the whole point."

This is one of the....I will call it 'mistakes' I have made also; and that is that in order to convey boredom on screen one has to actually BE BORING on screen. What I soon realized was that MOST viewers are VERY savy, and can take a hint. One only has to HINT a certain thing and the viewer is clued up to what we want to convey in the film. A few seconds get the job done VERY effectivly - it doesn't need a few minutes.

All good.
