Office FILM NOIR with GH1

I have always been obsessed with Film Noir - the shadows, the cigarettes, the detectives, the dames...you name it.

Sooo, I brought my GH1 into work one day, shot my co-workers (without their knowledge) and decided to piece together my own "OFFICE NOIR", with Voice Over done by yours truly. Hope you Enjoy

I liked the graphics. I thought your voice fit well but I would definitely slow down the machine gun VO a bit.

Liked the establishing shots and retro-atmosphere, What was your workflow to get Black and White-in-camera or post, and if post can you describe your steps. Thanks!

I didn't have time to really watch it, but so far I'd say you used too much diffusion. Authentic noir is gritty unless the female lead is in close up. Overall it looked good, though. I really like the exterior building.

I third the slowing down of the VO. I'm not really fresh on my film noir but I do know that they are quite a bit slower and much more deliberate in their voice overs. But the shots are excellent, and overall I enjoyed it.

Don't talk so fast! The VO made it harder for me to watch because I was having to concentrate too much on 'listening'.

Some comments. The 'slow mo' definitely put me off the 'noir', the 'soft focus' also was offputting.

I don't have a problem with your fast paced Walter Winchell clip... just too much echo in the location you used to capture the audio.

While it was hand held, for me the 'classic' noir is locked down, with signficant light design.

Thanks for the comments!

I absolutely agree with the shot comments - i.e more stable shots would have been nice, and there is too much diffusion. I was somewhat limited by shooting in my office in secret (setting up a tripod would have been a little bit sketchy) so I tried to to smooth it all out by shooting in 720p60 and conforming to 24p in cinematools.

I edited this using my 13inch macbook pro and, the gausian blur did not look nearly as potent. For my next shoot I will take this into considering.

For those interested the effects used on the clips were the following:

Gamma: taken down to .85 or around there
Color correcter 3way: Saturation all the way down
Gausian blur: turned all the way up on Blue
Tint: black and white (in order to compensate for the blue color created by the gausian blur effect)
