Offical HVX Cases thread/ Hard / Soft/ Small / Large

I've been looking at the same bags. That MC-61 looks nice, but then I thought about having my accessories in these pouches at the bottom of the case & that didn't thrill me.
I'ld like to know how soft the padding is on the pockets of that DVO-2U, That looks like it will carry everything .
Marlene are you listening - Also do the pouches in Portabraces have pcokets in them making up dividers. If so one of those might be the ticket for me.
There are some other bags like the Petrol I mentioned earlier that look good, but they won't carry everything. Rush at EVS has ones that are equivilent from Panny that are $90. Good deal.
I wish I could actually see these things.

The DVO2 side pockets are very soft and expand very well, the front pocket is also soft but has a thick padded barrier to protect against hits. On my HVX rental cameras in the DVO2, I put batteries and charger and cables in the front pocket (in sleeves), and in the soft pouches inside the bag, I put any other accessories someone might want (on-camera light, microphone). Side pockets remain empty for customer usage (slate, pom-poms, and what have you.) :)

I don't mean to crap in this thread, but while we're on the subject of cases/bags.... What would y'all suggest for a hard-case for the HVX? I'm considering both soft and hard case options at this point...

Rush,
Is the DVO2 the standard bag you use for HVX rentals now?
I assume it will work as airline carry on right.
Thanks for the info.

Hi Leni, yes it is the standard, due to portability and ruggedness. However it is not carry-on legal, due to the external pouch. The DVO1 with no pouch is legal though. I have a bag for local use, and a separate backpack for travel. My backpack looks like a travel bag rather than a camera bag, so it gets better security.

AV, hardcase: 1510 (carryon), 1550, 1560, 1600 (or any of the padded divider variants)

The DVO1 that Rush provided with my rental did indeed work well, although I have to admit I am a HUGH fan of the Petrol cases. Check out a few options here:

It's a small touch but one of the things I like best with the Petrol bags is the orange interior. The light color make it MUCH easier to find items buried deap in the bag. They are extremely well made and an excellent value when compared to the PortaBrace.

what is the type number of that case?
Does a HVX200 with external mic (sennheiser) fit into it?

I'm sure you could take this on a plane, might not fit under a seat though.

Rush,
Which bag do you use for local and which for the backpack?

Thanks for the info about the DV02 not being airport friendly . That makes it a deal kkiller for me. Though I've never had a problem with carrying on pro cameras in a portabrace. Is it bigger than that?
Its a drag figuring this out when you can't see the bags.

Well the DVO1, which is the front-pocket-less version of the DVO2, is airport-friendly. I use a Kata Panda backpack, and I have a DVO2 for local stuff.

Rush, after carefull scrutiny I discovered a substantial difference in the inside dimetions of the DV01 and DV02. The DV01 does indeed hold the HVX but you will be very limited in the accesories you can cram in it. That is why the DV02 is preferable. Here is the difference inside 17 x 7 x 9" Vs. 18 x 9.5 x 10".

Ooh thanks Evin, didn't know that! Those things look identical inside. Coo.

Sorry...forgot about this thread. I haven't taken this bag on an airplane but I've taken similar bags that were ok for carry on.

The pouches don't have pockets.

If you are still interested, I can shoot a picture of my bag loaded and post here. Just let me know and I'll do it.

Well, these bags just call for too much attention , don't you think? I really like the Porta Brace Bag, and it would certainly make you look a lot more professional on shooting, but would also call for the eyes of potential muggers who might "feel"the potential value of the package...

Well, its really a two faced decision, isn't it? Better protection and professional looking carrying case with potential to attract more unwanted attention vs a not so good protection bag that could be more discrete, but won't give you the "plus"of the "Porta-Brace"look...

Well, I got my Kata backpack this week and have had a chance to test it out with the HVX. The camera fit is a little snug, but is workable. When the HVX is in the bag, I can't get my 1.5" thick Laptop in the back the way they show in the pictures, maybe a thinner laptop would work better. Overall, this bag will suit my puposes very well as I needed something that I could take as a carry on and the build quality is top notch.

I have the HVX, a portable 3.5" drive, battery charger, Azden wireless mike set up, loads of cables and a point and shoot digital camera with quite a bit of room left over. Oh yeah, and a full set of warm cards too. Tripod can be strapped on the outside of the bag. I have a Bogen 3021 with a 503 head and the legs fit in the Kata pouch like they were made for each other. Just wish I could slide my laptop in the back and I would be stylin. I guess I just need a thinner laptop!

Ok, even with my ranting about "getting too much attention", I preordered a Porta-Brace Backpack- Model L3, I believe. It fits the camera (Hvx), acessories and, above all, my 17inch powerbook! This is great for on location recording with the HVX and for carrying, since my hands are free! Probably good to put some hdd's or cineporter on it while run and gun, too!

Here's a picture of my HVX in the Kata HB-207 backpack--

That's a wireless mic hookup in the lower left, two mesh bags for misc stuff, the HVX, a portable hard drive, and room for more. On the front there are two pockets that are good sizes for a handheld mic and a buch of cables. Under the handle on the top is another pocket that holds my p&s camera well. The fit is snug when you close the lid and zip up (I remove my bogen quick release to help the fit) but for my purposes the bag works well.
