Off the wall question for Panasonic Jan

Hi,

When recording P2 does the tape head still rotate in the drive mechanism? I know it's a strange question but if P2 i solid state then the only thing 'moving' should be the lens, right?

My thoughts are that the camera could be used as a V.O. device in the field with pristine audio without the internal moving parts.

Thanks...

ill step out on a very strong limb here and say ..it doesnt run the tape heads unless you have a tape loaded. same for DVX .. you can record via firewire off it and it doesnt run the heads unless theres a tape in there.

I hope Panasonic can deliver quiet audio with this camera at a minimum of -70db floor. The -45 to -50db leaves alot to be desired for the on camera audio circuit.

While obviously we'd desire the best sound possible, you should still keep in mind that the DVX was a quantum leap forward in low-cost-camera audio quality. Dramatically quieter and cleaner than the Z1's HDV audio or the PD170's DV audio.

I think we're all expecting it to be at least as good, if not even better, than the DVX audio circuit.
