Off loading SD cards via iPad

Has anyone used something like this to transfer files from a sd card to an external drive? http://alexnld.com/product/usb-hub-...ms-card-reader-combo-adapter-for-ipad-4-mini/

If so can you recommend one? I'm doing a trip to Panama in a month and am wanting to leave my laptop home if possible. I'm wondering if something like this is even an option of if I should just buy more cards/bring my computer. Just a fun trip so slow transfer speeds aren't much of a concern.

Thanks!

I've never used an iPad for storage - is there a way to get files back off the thing? Especially raw files? The iPad lets you "share" a lot of stuff, but I wonder how it deals with files it doesn't understand natively? I don't think you can just dig into the file system.

I've seen some free-standing hard drives with card readers, where you just dump a card to the drive. Can't recall a brand, etc., but there have been devices like that.

Just to clarify I'm not wanting to use the iPad to store files. I'm looking for something that I can use to transfer files from my gh4 sd card to an external drive using the iPad. I've head of drives or ways of transferring files without a computer but I think they're all a little too spendy for vacation backup.

I looked at B&H after replying and there's a product category of drives with a visual interface screen - 500GB starts at about $300 or so though. An iPad or smart phone acting as an interface sounds like a good idea though - if you can't find one, find an app developer and go make a million bucks!

If I had a little card reader that plugged into my phone and also into any-old-USB drive, maybe some sort of dock that used the phone as an interface? That would be waaaaay cool. Someone could make some bucks if that doesn't yet exist. Throw in serious data checking and verification at the app level or in the reader hardware and you'd have a pro tool as well.

I bet people would buy the hell out of that...

Another idea if you will be in a hotel with decent WiFi is to import them into your iPad and have the Google Photos app installed. Let it sync them, then delete them from your iPad/iPhone.

Also the newest 9.2 IOS update will let you finally use the card adapters to import photos on an iPhone. Why the iPad had it and the iPhone didn't really never made sense to me.
