Odyssey7Q April 2014 Firmware Update

Hi Mitch,

So what features can we expect in the next firmware update?

I know you said there are no timelines for updates but I certainly hope some features are coming soon as the it's going on 7 months since the 7Q was release. There's a pretty long list of promised features and only a few have come to light. I hope that it's not something that's going to drag on for months on end before we start getting said features.

I'm really just hoping for 60fps 4K2HD and some type of compressed 4K, whether it be Pro-Res or Sony Compressed RAW since now you guys have full access to the FS700 RAW.

Just installed 4x 4TB harddrives in raid, so im good for atleast 1 medium project. But then i will run out.

As stated, we are upping the pace of firmware releases from now on. We know it took five months to get the first firmware update after the Odyssey7Q began shipping, but the next update came less than a month later. Expect these relatively fast updates to be the norm from now on. No more long, long waits.

And no more painful teases either. There will be an update soon, and you will definitely get both fixes and increased functionality out of it. Not gonna say just what at this time ...

Hi Mitch!

I talked to Andy and he told me that the 4K RAW 60fps footage should be played back correctly (in slowmotion) after the latest firmware update but for me it's only the 2K RAW 240fps that plays in correct slowmo speed. The 60fps footage plays back in 60fps so I can't show the clients the slowmo effect on the monitor after a take. Is this something that can be resolved asap?

Sincerely
/Max

That's great Mitch. 4K Raw is a nice idea but for me is very impractical, and I purchased the 7Q in November of 2013 because of 4K Prores, really nothing else, I knew that the 4K raw was not going to work for me. I do really appreciate your constant attention to this forum though.

Pretty sure your 240fps stuff isn't playing back correctly either. If it's the same as my 200fps footage, you're actually viewing it in a 50p (60p) wrapper, so it's playing back at 2x the speed.

Not sure if this is the right thread or if this has been covered, but I'm noticing a couple things:

1) When using the Odyssey 7Q with the Canon C100, ProRes files are more contrasty than the camera's AVCHD files on a Premiere Pro CS6 timeline.
Similar findings when viewed with VLC.

2) Canon C100 recording with Frequency setting of 59.94, Frame rate: 60i to internal cards. Odyssey only picks up 29.97 PsF. Is this a limitation of what the camera is sending over HDMI or what the 7Q can record?

Thank you,

What he said.

Please see if that addresses your issue and let me know if we can be of further assistance.

On the PSF recording question, the Odyssey7Q currently does not support interlace recording. However at acceptable frame rates (50i & 60i) it will "see" the signals as PSF (progressive segmented frames, which is a Sony format for delivering progressive images over an interlace signal stream. This is essentially what your Canon camera is doing anyway, so the image is being recorded correctly.

We will soon have standard interlace recording available as well as 2:3 pulldown available for shooting 24p in this manner.

Bug I noticed when using 7Q with FS - if you hit 'last scene' button on camera for quick frame reference or such like, it sends the 7Q into a tail spin, lines all over the place, unable to detect SSD's, purple watermark etc. No biggie, just power off and on and not do it again but might be worth alerting engineers if unknown.

Thanks for the note, I'll pass it along.

Hi Mitch, any news on the next firmware update please? Would really like to tap into some HFR ProRes.

Cheers
