Odyssey7Q April 2014 Firmware Update

The Odyssey is a great piece of kit and great monitor but I honestly fear that by the time everything that has been promised has been implemented, that there will be cameras out that will shoot compressed 4k at high speed internally and render the Odyssey an antiquated device.

... as the FS700 also. (It would have been already without the 7Q)

Thanks for the offers of assistance. The problem with beta builds is that I can tell you from my personal attempts to work with them what we have is catastrophic failures. Everything is going fine and then when the code breaks, boy does it ever break. I made the mistake of looking at some beta firmware while at the trade show in Singapore and effectively bricked one of my display units for the remainder of the show. We wouldn't want to unleash that on anyone.

We do have a beta program in place. And thank you, but no, we do not need anyone else to be beta testers at this time. Any bugs or issues you find, please submit a Support Ticket and we will add it to our list.

Any chance you could have a 'known bug list' online somewhere. It seems a waste of everyone's time to contact you about a bug you already know about.

Oh, I've no doubt there'll be camera's announced that 'do' all those things - but it will inevitably be two years down the line before you have one in your hand that actually does those things.

yup , not worth waiting. fs7Q is the best in class market. price/performance cant be beat and wont be beat for awhile.

I just shot the fs7q with my new 65mm canon mp-e 1-5x macro!!! the images are sooooo sick!!! ants , eyes , flowers , etc..

i could use 4k at 120 frames raw :)

Hmm, I'm as disappointed as the next about not having a firmware update that includes all the promised features. However, the FS7Q is by far the best bang for buck. The images are truly stunning and the features that are implemented (when working correctly) are a dream. In fact, I'd say it matches the original Epic on IQ (Haven't tried Dragon yet, so can't comment). I don't think you'll get anything in the FS7Q price range that beats it on performance within the next 1-2 years.

Having said all that, CD needs to crack on and make the promised features work and fast, otherwise they will become the new BlackMagic. I do appreciate the new honesty though. Having another broken promise of "it will be here within the next couple of weeks" would have been a bit much to swallow.

Yes, please don't forget 4K 120fps, its the only feature I'm waiting for.
Compressed recordings? Yes, its useful but there is a walk around it, shoot raw and compress afterwards. Shooting 4K 120fps? There is no way to get it.

So, once again, please 4K 120fps soon.

Thank you

so true...bring it on!

4K2HD 60p is going to be a game changer for me shooting action sports. Once it comes out, it's a done deal. You'll have my money ;)

Will the Odyssey 7 have the capacity to record 4K2HD? I'm only interested in this function of the Odyssey7Q since I have to record tons of shots while filming action sports, Raw would be too taxing on my workflow. Sorry if this has been answered already! I've been lurking on this thread for a while and haven't seen it addressed.

Mitch can confirm but it's my understanding that the 7 lacks the ability to take in a 4K signal and doesn't have the FS700 RAW codec option, meaning it couldn't do the 4K RAW to HD.

The Odyssey7 is an HD video only device. No 4K, no RAW, no record options, no MultiStream. It is similar to numerous other recorders on the market in that way, although of course what is so special is our OLED monitor with all of its imaging tools. If you need any of the other recording functionality, then the Odyssey7Q is the device for you.

Hi Mitch,

I plan on ending up with quite a few Odysseys basically- 3 for cameras and 1 multicast director monitor. What would be really useful and to save some $ would be a quad split monitor without the record functions, for general viewing or specifically for focus pulling or remote gimbal operation where you really don't need the recording capability. I know there are other cheaper solutions, but love that OLED.

Also please, please, please (thank you James Brown) let us, i.e. me, know what the gh4/sony7s upgrade will be- availablity/cost. You guys are losing a jump if you don't get it out soon. A7s is in a friends hand as I write this and gh4 is in mine.

I really need to start on my CDesign super system but will not until I know the facts. And just to be annoying P,P,P finish up on the promised c500 functions. I love the combo, but it is getting very frustrating to have to use other solutions for what the C500 is capable of.

THX for the 1138th time

Doesn't it already have quad monitoring for free, without buying the codec? I think the codec is purchased only if you want to record the streams.

"And thank you, but no, we do not need anyone else to be beta testers at this time"

From some of the bugs I see perhaps you just need better beta testers.

What I'm asking for is a stripped down monitor that doesn't record to save on cost. An odyssey 7 that doesn't record at all but can do quad split.
