Odyssey7Q+, and support for Odyssey7Q

Today Convergent Design announces the new Odyssey7Q+.

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?331595-Introducing-the-Odyssey7Q-from-Convergent-Design

The Odyssey7Q+ supersedes the Odyssey7Q. A new feature of the Odyssey7Q+ is the ability to capture 4K/UHD over HDMI.

The Odyssey7Q has not been abandoned. The entire Odyssey Family of Products (Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q, Odyssey7Q+) share a programming architecture, so that with every firmware update each device will receive the appropriate upgrades.

Owners of the Odyssey7Q interested in purchasing an Odyssey7Q+ are invited to take advantage of our Odyssey7Q Owner Loyalty Program. With the purchase of an Odyssey7Q+, Odyssey7Q owners will get a one year warranty extension on their Odyssey7Q, any purchased Record Options replicated on their Odyssey7Q+, and a $500 credit to their account on the Convergent Design website.

Details on the program will be posted soon.

Thanks for posting news.
HDMI 1.4b only, will that be sufficient to record UHD/4K at 60 FPS?

They may introduce a 1 TB SSD solution or an Odyssey7Qplus with 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 on the hardware side.

Any news about the December Firmware Release?

Its only a few months that you denied the coming of this product Mitch. Thanks!

How is your policy on used sales? Will my FS700 Record Option transfer onto the buyer of my used O7Q while its been replicated over to my new O7Q+ that records from my A7s?

Over HDMI the Odyssey7Q+ will record 4K to 24p, UHD to 30p. Higher frame rates are available over SDI. These limitations are true for other manufacturers as well, based on the currently available HDMI receiver chips.

You might want to read what I wrote in the past again. I may not give all the information but I always strive to be strictly accurate. It's careful phrasing.

You are entirely free to sell your Odyssey7Q after taking advantage of our Loyalty Program. The Odyssey7Q will retain its Record Options plus it will have a one year extension added to its warranty. We are trying to make it easier for you to be able to sell it used.

I understand that you are furious. So was I when I bought the FS 700 3 weeks before th FS 7 was announce!

But from an economical perspective, thats just the deal: Imagine they would have announced it earlier: nobody
would have bought a 7Q anymore, so CD would make a loss and be stuck on 7Q units.

That's the thing with fast technology...

PS: if youre interested in selling, i'd be interested in buying ;)

Thank you for the latter. I may consider getting it for an A7s later on and thus its nice to know there are options out there.

Well no im not really mad (anymore). It seems the HDMI is basicly the only upgrade. Please add if theres alot more added Mitch.

Together with the loyalty program, this looks like a good choice. HDMI recording proved undoable on the v1, but not alot of people need that feature alone so i dont think the 7Q will drop in price or quality any time soon.

Well look at it this way.

Old 7Q limited offer while stores last + recording option FS700 = 2600 dollars
New 7Q+ with loyalty program giving free FS700 recording = 2300 dollars (otherwise 3100 dollars)
Old 7Q + FS700 option sold used= Above 2000 dollars, im fairly certain of that.
Credits for online store = 500 dollars

You can actually earn a few hundred bucks exchanging the 7Q to 7Q+, depending on the used value. And even better, its not a HDMI to SDI converter dangling below the 7Q.

Only 8-bit for HDMI? Am I reading that right? I thought HDMI could do 10/12-bit or is 8-bit just a limitation in this hardware?

and a $500 credit to their account on the Convergent Design website. Details on the program will be posted soon.QUOTE said:
So wait...can I use that $500 credit to buy a 7q+ as a 7q owner? and if so is that offer an 'international' one?

My guess is that its a cashback sort of arrangement.

Spend it on SSDs. Sell your old 7Q together with an SSD used so that the new buyer can operate it immediately. Or not. Up to you.

There are no options to buy SSDs in the webshop. You may use this credit for additional renting options or an extended warranty only.

no. You have to buy the new 7Q+ first, money out of your pocket THEN you have that $500 credit to use later. Kinda like BH "4% cashback credit" on your puchase.
