We are looking into the possibility of this option.I might have missed it on here... thought I've been following thgis thread fairly close. But, what is the reason there is not the ability to delete clips on the 7Q. Seems like that is something one would want to do quite frequently given the amount of data that coiuld get eaten up on one shot to only end up as an unusable bad take. Anxiously awaiting ours... been on pre-order since the first week in May from Abel Cine.
Memory systems such as SSDs do not store data in a purely linear fashion, dropping files one after another. They are instead spread across various sections within the memory in parallel, with a driver keeping track of where everything is located. This process greatly increases the speed the drive can read and write data. Think of this as filling multiple buckets of water at once rather than one bucket after another. If data is deleted then a little bit from each of these buckets is withdrawn and the map of available memory in the drive begins to resemble Swiss cheese. Hunting down and filling in available memory blocks greatly slows down the SSD, and this can compromise performance. If you are recording files that require a high data rate - such as 2K RAW 240fps - then if performance drops too much it could lead to dropped frames, which is something we will never let happen.
We're looking into the possibility of deleting just the last take, as this should not effect the data speed too adversely. But going through the directory and randomly deleting takes is not gonna happen. Your data is too precious.
