Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q Status Update

Mitch, Dan,
please keep the development process focussed. Implementing the "popular codec" and unleashing 4K for the Sony FS700 should add most value for now. CD has announced the O7Q in spring and we already had some delay.

I highly doubt they're losing focus. They've given us clear notes that tell us what major features they expect to release in Dec. and then in Q1 of next year. Included in those two updates are both the compressed codecs and 4K. Just because they are listening to their users about other potential features, doesn't mean they're being distracted from the roadmap they've already shared with us.

Keep up the great work, Mitch, Dan, & co.!! I don't think I've ever refreshed my B&H order status more in my life.......

No, however the RMT (Remote) port a couple of inches below the USB port will output 1A @ 5V no problem. We can manufacture a custom cable or if you have a preferred cable maker we can provide the connector and pin-out info.

Thanks Mitch!

I think the RMT-miniUSB cable would be much appreciated by many owners of paralinx and other gadgets powered by miniusb ports!
Let me/us know if you'll consider this! ;)

Ah, any update on the 4:2:2 uncompressed HDMI output of the new Sony A7R?
Is it really 60P capable?
Is it 8bit or 10bit?
Is it plagued by scaling artifacts/moire as others mirrorless/dslr cams?

You're not the first person to ask for this cable, so I'll look into us formally making it a standard product that can be ordered from Convergent Design. BTW, the RMT port has enough juice to power a Paralinx transmitter or receiver, so 5v @ 2A. I can see people wanting to use it in both configurations.

Don't know anything about the Sony A7R.

Let me look into it. Although I don't know why anyone would need anything other than 1.33x and 2x anamorphic de-squeeze.

Can I add x1.5 to this roadmap please, the only reasonably priced focusable anamorphic out there currently (I'm not sure the Letus or SLR Magic are available yet) is the Iscorama and they're 1.5x. I use one a lot and would love a desqueeze option, it's pretty standard on other monitors so I'm assuming it's not too tricky to do. Thanks!

Cuervo-

The Enduro power batery plate is made T6061 aircraft aluminum and acts a large heat sink when mounted on the rear of the Odyssey7Q. The inside of the aluminum bracket is carved out, plus there are dozens of air vents on the rear and all sides. We found in our testing that we measured no increase in heat rise after adding the EnduroPower adapter. More information can be found here: http://www.oceanvideo.com/enduro-4-odyssey7.html

We specifically extended the bottom footprint to give impact protection to the BNC connectors. It is way to easy ding one of the BNC connectors when handling the unit. These BNC's are board mounted and if dinged hard enough it means a trip back to the factory!

The second reason for the extension is to allow the easy addition of other grip accessories such as camera rods or "C" stand mounts.

Here's an example:

Hi PaulHeling-

The price is $249 plus power options.

We are adding the major dealers that sell the Oyssey7Q. In LA, give BandPro and AbelCine a call. (BTW, Their web site needs updating. This week I'm told).

In the east, check out Adorama. Here's their website link: http://www.adorama.com/ENEP3XX.html

I don't suppose that rod mount allows the 7q to tilt back a bit for adjusting viewing angle? Nice to have the weight on the back especially with vlock just looks like be harder to see. I'm guessing someone would make something that allows standard rods to have a tilt join anyway?

I'm using a modular Berkey System. I have my O7Q mounted on the rails behind the FS700 with a pivot point very close to the lower/rear screw hole. This allows me to adjust the viewing angle according to the tripod height. Works very well.IMG_1618.jpgIMG_1619.jpg

The way the Berkey System works, I can modify the post that attaches to the O7Q with a longer post; and move the mounting hole to the enduroplate. This will shift the pivot point to be behind the enduro plate and battery when it arrives.

I just found out my pre-ordered 7Q is now available to ship asap but there are no power cables available... Anyone know if power cables are in stock anywhere? I'd think CD should really insist vendors order cables with their 7Qs since they are nearly useless without the special power cable. I'm going to be tempted to just cut the end off the AC adapter and make a custom cable just so I have a portable power cable right away.

CD did not have them in stock when they shipped my order of 7Q's, but they are arriving here today.

What I have done for my 7Q customers is cut the power supply chord and install a male and a female D-tap in line. And they are also ordering extra power cables, that will ship as pig tails or with whatever end they like, I stock a few standard plugs.

I also suggest using a tablet pen to use the menu system. I have them on order and will be shipping them to all my 7Q customers.

You also need SMPTE 424 compliant BNC cables and 90 degree couplings are highly recommended as well. We stock those and make them custom lengths as well, each one is tested before shipping.

Is the ac power supply cord not attached to the power supply? do you have a picture of the modification? What's on the other end of the cable that you put the inline d-tap on?

I will post photos in a while of all the accessories I make.

But the power supply mod is very easy. The power supply is a wall wart with 6' of cable and the Neutrix power plug on the other end. I just cut this in half and solder a male D-tap plug on the Neutrix end and a female inline D-tap jack on the transformer side.

You can do this yourself if you are good at soldering, it does not have to be D-tap it can be any male/female combo of plug and jack that fits your battery system like XLR or 2.5mm plugs.

Just don't mess up polarity.

This is a very nice solution because it gives you a spare D-tap in the field as well as an AC power source, if you order a power cable as well. I am a big believer in spares ready to go in the field.
