Odyssey 7Q SSDs

Newbie question: Is there a way to assign recording to a particular SSD in the O7Q? Do you NOT want to have two drives plugged in unless you need both for RAID recording? Does it support automatic switchover when one drive fills up?

During my initial testing, somehow I ended up making some recordings to one drive, and some to another. I thought I was mounting and ejecting properly, but maybe I messed up somewhere.

In my experience, any mode that only requires one drive (ProRes, 4K 24, 2K 24, etc) will fill up SSD1 before going over to SSD2. And I've mixed framerates while shooting (4K24, 4K60, 2K240, and ProRes 24) and it seamlessly goes from RAID to normal when going back into a single-drive-only frame rate. Again, even if I was shooting a RAID frame rate, going back to single-drive would only record to SSD1 until it was full.

Unless I missed something, I've never assigned recording to a specific drive. I could see that being handy if you wanted to split up your standard frame rate recordings across the two SSDs to keep them "even" (as opposed to filling one up) so you'd still have RAID capability on those drives.

I've had strange instances when shooting 4k on 2 drives, when the first fills it splits to the 2nd. but then for some reason there are multiple files with splitting going on, and it is out of order. Like it tried to jam the first one even more full than it already was a few times. It was weird :-). Now when my #1 gets close to full I eject it.

I would like to be little more clear, please. I put two drives in the Odyssey and shoot. I am trusting that it will fill the first and seamlessly switch to the second and keep going. Is there anything I have set to make this happen. Please confirm that this approach is correct. I have never had a shoot where I had to switch over, but that will happen.

Hey Mitch,

Could you chime in on this? I'm thinking this is how it works.

On paid jobs, I tend to only use 1 card just to keep things clean and simple and usually we don't use 240fps for paid jobs anyways. On fun jobs / art projects I love 240fps.

With that said, when shooting 2k RAW 240fps and 4K RAW 60fps, it records to both cards as we all know.

My question is, if we are mixing frame rates like say... 4K2HD @ 30fps and 2K RAW @ 240fps. We can mix 30fps and 240fps until card 1 is full, correct? Once card 1 is full, we can NO LONGER shoot 240fps, but we can shoot the lower frame rates until card 2 is filled up?

I believe what I said above is correct but I would like to verify.

Thanks

The above is correct.

However, we are looking into some memory management tools to allow the user to allocate the SSDs differently. We have to be careful as we like the menu process to be very simple and clear, and at the same time we understand that people want their files to be laid out in a simple to organize, linear fashion when they are loaded into a computer.
