Odyssey 7Q SDI output question

Is there anyway to select the format being output out of the SDI on the 7Q? When in the standard Prores (422 HD) the SDI outputs fine to our Marshall Orchid studio monitor, however when I switch over to 4K2HD Prores the Marshall monitor signal goes black. So, my question is, what exactly is being passed through the SDI and also, can I change the output to a format the Marshall will see?

BTW... as everyone has already said many times... thank you CD for finally allowing us to be able to shoot high contrast chromakey without any artifacting. After owning the camera for a year and a half, this piece of kit has finally made our FS700 what we wanted all along! I have posted on here many times about our high contrast artifacts and everyone always said- "let's see your lighting set up", or "you are doing this wrong"... heck even Sony replaced our FS700 because they couldn't figure it out. However, now when shooting 4K2HD not only is the image so much sharper, but that nasty white edge line on the right side of our chromakey images is finally GONE! We can finally use our 700 for GS work! Bout damn time.

End rant. Thanks for your help with the SDI question.

Hi Ronnie,

Just out of interest - what settings are or will you be using for your chromakey work - SLog2 / 709 and what other settings in camera have you found best?

Cheers,

Paul.

I'm really looking forward to shooting some chromakey with this setup :) I've always previously shot with PMW-350 which has actually given fairly good results. This should be like chalk and cheese though!

be interesting to see what Keylight can do with it, Might just get some kit out and have a play myself ;)

Sorry, just seeing this thread now and I don't have a second monitor to test this out at the moment.

Currenttly, when in 4K2HD the SDI outputs are a true progressive 1080p (not psf). Perhaps there's a setting on your Marshall to adjust for this. There is currently no setting on the Odyssey7Q to adjust for this, but I hadn't noticed it before and will point this out to our engineers as it can be an issue downstream with equipment looking for psf or interlace, just as it is for you.

The reason that it was fine when in HD mode on the camera is that the FS700 is one of the few Sony cameras that allows the switching of the output between p & psf, and it is likely that you are currently set to pdf. The adjustment for this is in the camera's REC/OUT SET menu, a couple tabs below the spot where you set the camera from HD to RAW, in VIDEO OUT.

BTW, there's a nice little hidden feature for those taking advantage of the SDI or HDMI outputs from the Odyssey7Q. In the previous firmware, whenever an onscreen overlay such as the waveform or focus assist, it was also sent out over the image on the outputs. Not good when going to client monitors! Now there is a control to select if you want the overlays to go out or the image to remain clean. It is under the OUTPUTS tab and is labelled MONITORING on/off. The name may change because I've asked that we rename this OVERLAYS on/off because otherwise it sounds like we switched of the video feed completely.

Ah I wondered what the monitoring switch did - I thought it was for overlays but agree, it's not the best name. Overlays would be much better :)
