Odyssey 7Q good for pulling focus?

Mitch, others: Is the Odyssey 7Q good for pulling focus? That would mean there is very little lag in the monitor, especially when recording. My camera is the FS-700, and that has a terrible delay, but how much does the 7Q add? Do the various settings affect this, like waveform monitor?

it's good question as the lag over HDMI at the FS700 was clearly visible. I felt there is no lag over SDI and I made a short check: shoot the screen of your NLE when playing and show frames when playing. I made several shots of the display with a Canon 6D and the result was always the same..

I presume that your frame was 23 going onto 24 (in both monitors). So there was no delay over SDI. Do you remember how much delay there was over HDMI?

Hmmm... That's really interesting. I emailed Sony about the lag over HDMI and they said it's due to sensor design and SDI would present the same problem...

Quote from Primesupport: "Yes the SDI output will also have a small frame difference compared to real time. There are no firmware updates planned to change this at the moment."

And there's no lag even during recording? This would be a huge advantage to me!

Had to try it out again to make sure. Some have said the monitor is also to blame but on Blackmagic Pocket cam there is zero lag between HDMI output and the camera. Both cameras however lag 2 frames when I compare to Premiere's timecode.

Here's a picture to illustrate. Premiere is at 2:12, FS700 at 2:09 and HDMI monitor at 2:07.

Good news if OQ7 doesn't add to the lag!

Finally I found a HDMI A to B cable from my Canon but I don't have an input via HDMI. What might I have done wrong?

edit
support told me camera has to be set on 1080i

Is the difference that the 700 is set to RAW in which case perhaps the signal is cleaner through that and the time taken to decode on the internal LCD is the same as the time taken on the O7Q?

I've not noticed any major problems with the delay

cheers
Paul
