Odyssey 7Q 4k over HDMI..

There has been talk around a solution for the O7Q to do 4K over hdmi.
What do you guys think, It would have to be a hardware upgrade and we would have to send our units to get the hdmi input switched to HDMI 2.0, right?

A thought that came to me (probably not possible) would be interesting to see if the 7Q technically can record 4k in 24p on sdi and hdmi at the same time.. Lets say you connect a FS700 via sdi and a A7S to hdmi. Could be interesting..

I woudn't think so. HDMI 1.4 does 4k, at the same frame rates that cameras like the A7s and GH4 can produce.

You mean do TWO streams of 4k encoding at once? That would involve twice the CPU power, twice the drive bandwidth -- good news, it can be done. It's called having two 7Qs.
 
how about just 1080/60p over hdmi? and a camera trigger....? specifically i am testing with a nikon d750 and 7q 24p hdmi works great aside from no camera trigger.

The 7Q's spec sheet currently says "HDMI Video I/O -- HDMI I/O Version 1.4a support, up to 1080p30 422 8-bit". So it looks like no.

Camera trigger requires both the camera to output timecode over HDMI, and the recorder to trigger from it. It's not clear to me whether the 7Q supports HDMI timecode, though the specs imply it does. But maybe the Nikon isn't outputting timecode over HDMI -- it's not a standard feature of HDMI, so that's likely.

I believe they'll be supporting HDMI timecode in the upcoming firmware.
 
Definitely seems shortsighted for CD to omit 4k HDMI input in their professional 4k recorder... If they don't find a way to add it, it's really going to hurt them when the Shogun comes around. Then again it was also a bit annoying they used miniHDMI as well considering pretty much most modern devices use microHDMI or full size HDMI. MiniHDMI seems like the worst of both worlds, very flimsy and still not that small, something from a pre-1.4 time when micro didnt yet exist and full size hdmi didnt quite fit in some devices.
 
Not all HDSLR cameras output timecode or a trigger pulse over their HDMI signals. For those that do, we will support them.
 
Is there a way to get two hdmi streams (from two dslr) into the 7q to record two prores hq 1080 streams? Converter box? Not possible? Need to purchase multi stream capability? Thank you.
 
There is only one HDMI input so you would need to purchase an HDMI-SDI converter. There's a basic one on Amazon for about $60 that actually works great and can be powered from 5-12v. I'm in Canada at the moment and the one from Amazon.ca is labelled Panlong but it has a different name in the US.

This converter is one of the few that cleanly passes 1080p60, making it outperform several higher priced models. I remember when one of these boxes ran $1200.

In order to get two signals into the Odyssey7Q you will need to be in Multi-Stream mode. We have not yet released the Multi-Stream Recording option, so for now this is monitoring only.
 
So, I've sold my 7q. :( this litte panlong convertor which worked very well has been left behind. $25 to anyone who wants it. including a 2.5mm barrel connector to usb so you can power off a usb power source (like a usb battery etc)
