Oddly Cheap Batteries

Pale, actually I just got one of those in the mail a week ago for my music video shoot. Didn't have 100 bucks to shell out for the DVXuser one, so I got this...

Works like a dream :).

Beware. A friend bought several "5 hour" batteries for a DVX through the 'net, and although they looked like the big "5-hour" batteries (though were suspiciously light), they worked for only 45 minutes.

pmark, do you know if they were this particular type? BrandonC, does yours seem to be lasting as described?

good chance you're going to get what you pay for. while it's only $20 bucks, it is probably not $20 well spent.

I used it on my music video shoot and was not expecting 5 hrs from it.

It definitely worked for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

That's not bad for 30 bucks.

Looks like a good deal, but those eBay batteries are 3200 mAH, not 5000mAH.

I have a 5000 mAH DVXUser battery, and a 5400mAH Panasonic. Those two batteries provide 10 hours of power, easy!

perhaps I should further elaborate. bet that battery doesn't hold much of a charge within a year (or much sooner with heavy useage). if you're going to buy 2 for like $50 (inc shipping), why not spend $80 (inc shipping) to take advantage of the great deal Jarred has created oon the dvxuser battery? Bet you won't end up chucking that in the trash in the near future.

JY: I'll end up getting a DVXuser battery eventually, I just needed a quick solution for cheap (me = starving student).

I was worried it would even fit in the DVX so ANYTHING was a welcome surprise :).

1.) I bought one for $18 from Hong Kong (shipping incl). Says it's 6000 mAh. Seems like a suspiciously "odd" size, but for $18, why NOT at least give it a try?
2.) The "religionists" blindly tell us "stick with DVXuser batteries!" -- and not to get the cheap batteries -- with no real reason or rationale other than the brand name. Often in life that cheap no-name item does great. If we could save tons of money, why not at least give it a try?? As long as you keep a proven battery on hand as a backup.
3.) At the same time, it would be foolish to buy more than one, before really trying them out.

I guess I am one of the "religionists" whatever that means.

A battery is probably the most essential item you purchase.

My suggestion is buy one that you know is time tested by fellow users.

Man, this is probably the 500th time this battery discussion has taken place on here. I've been using the cheapo generic camcorder batteries for the past 13 years and have found them (any) to work fine. You can get a D54 battery for $25/$30 that will perform as well or almost as well as any brand name batteries.
