oconner

I'm using the Vocas four-stage MB-450 with Swingaway. Great for the F3, but costs nearly half what the F3 sells for. I like the look of the Chrosziel 450 which comes up quite cheaply from time to time on eBay. I do like the Vocas however becasuse I can use my 5.65x5.65 filters with lenses as wide as the Tokina 11-16. Oh....and it's beautifully made.

Well, @ 18mm it does vignette on the zoom. But 25mm and up its all good.

It does not however vignette with an 18mm prime. Cooke, zeiss, etc...

150 mm front for o-box. clips on the 18-100 perfectly.

That is something for people to keep in mind. The Chrosziel 450 has a 110mm opening. It kinda works with the Sony kit lenses and other PL lenses will be too big for it. The Oconnor is a scream of a deal and appears to be the go-to mattebox right now for many camera ops. It is interesting that Oconnor is now going after the non-hollywood crowd now. Two years ago I wouldn't have expected Oconnor to release anything this affordable.

we live in different times, the indie market has exploded. thanks to companies like redrock, zacuto, cinevate, letus, shoot35, etc. etc. the gear has been much more affordable, thus more people are shooting, from pro's to amatuers, to hobbyists, to people just trying to learn. wide such a wide gamut of people buying now of varying success, the demand is much higher. so rather than, a few thousand people buying a expensive mattebox, they can make their profit from selling a cheaper mattebox to tens of thousands of people. simple business, you sell a lot of something of whatever quality, in o'connor's case, high quality. or sell it to fewer people at a much higher price.

With the RED 17-50 with two 4x5.65 filters AND a 138mm round in the back (bellows rubber pulled off to accommodate the lens hood), the O-Box clears with room to spare. It will certainly work just fine with the 18-50.
