SHORT: Occupied Germany

Dark Side of the Camera
I´m not a friend of 48hrs or whatsoever projects.
Most of them are to Dogma, to handheld and to artsy for my taste.

Having said that, I did a under 2hrs project last weekend.

I was in an open air museum that features a complete German village at about 1910-1950.

No Disneyland, all the houses and "props" are real old. Absolute time travel.
I spend that weekend there with my reenactor/living history friends and we did an impression of occupied Germany in September 1945 - the first summer in peace.

Since I had my trusty HVX200 with me, I had the idea of a little drama.
The museum opens at 10:00 so we had 2 hrs to shoot when we start at 8:00.
Well, we started at 8:30.

Of course it was all very quick run and gun, handheld without sound and light - exactly the combination I usually hate - but on the other hand it also was some kind of challenge for me, since I never done something like that.

I was impressed, especially considering the strict time schedule you had. And once more these pentacon six zeiss lenses really shine. You have convinced me getting a biometar 80mm 2.8.

Thanks for your warm words Kostas, but actually this was shot on a bare HVX200. Since there was no chance for focus pulling in such a situation, I went with all the usual No-Go like autofocus and OIS. I think the HVX did a wonderful job.

I probably got fooled by the colors and overall feel of the footage (similar to some screenshots you have posted elsewhere) and thought you were using these lenses with the dof adapter. Anyway, great footage and organization of the crew for being run and gun.

I thought it looked pretty great considering your time constraints. I may have edited the opening down a tad but this is really good stuff.

Nice work, Frank. It really was like stepping back in time.

holy F!! that looked amazing. all natural lighting too, no pro lights or bounces? Or did you bounce some stuff around, diffusion anything?
That looked amazing. I felt like I was in Saving Private Ryan at times

Very nice job Frank!

Agreed - the landscape shots look terrific.

Overall very impressive with only 2hrs (sorry 1.5 hrs) and no lights.

I used a white table cloth as a bounce on the kitchen table - everything else was natural.

The outside stuff was shot first in the morning when there was some mist in the air.

I did a bit color correction - lowered the saturation and played a bit with curves and levels, very basic, nothing fancy like Magic Bullet.
