O7Q Maintenenace firmware release?

C-D indicated there might be a minor maintenance firmware release today. Is that still on the schedule?

Pushed back. We'll let everyone know when it's ready.

The problem with a complicated device such as the Odyssey7Q is that when you "fix" one thing, that fix often "breaks" something else. It's the nature of coding. So then we have to hunt down that as well. We're working on it.

I think CD might be trying to make the firmware release perfect and that's why it's so behind schedule by 1 1/2 months.

With that said, I wish CD would release more frequent incremental bug fixes / minor firmware updates - Missmatched SSD error, screen flicker and a monitor Display LUT that does not affect the histogram.

Plus, a small bug fix firmware upgrade would really boost the moral of the troops. When firmware upgrades keep getting pushed back, people get a little nervous and skeptical. I'm not expecting the whole pie, just some crumbs to squash the current little bugs.

We understand your frustration, and that was actually the original intention. But it really isn't that easy. Think of it this way: Imagine there's a little issue with something in your car's transmission. We may know eactly what it is and just need to tighten a bolt, but to get to that bolt means dismantling half the engine, pulling out the transmission and ripping it apart to tighten the bolt, and then putting everything back together again. When we do this, sometimes we start it all up and discover that tightening this bolt has led to an unpredicted issue in the brakes. So now we can't send out a car with bad brakes, and we have to go chasing down that problem.

There are people working on the firmware and only the firmware every day. We will get it out as soon as we can, but we only ever wish to release something that is right.

Not wishing to nit-pick, but, I sincerely hope C-D is honest and forthcoming regarding bugs in released software. I'm referring, specifically, to both the white point and the WFM errors in the current release. The way I found out about these bugs were to ask about them. Seems the honest thing to do is to make everyone aware of what they're dealing with when the software is released.

I'm not concerned with non-operational bugs like nebulous error messages on the display screen. I am referring to bugs that influence and effect the useage of onboard tools used for exposure, balance, etc., since this clearly affects the acquisition of quality data.

hmmmm....
given that this is the equivalent of a beta release, I can accept that explanation. Seems like there should be a bug clearinghouse or blog post on the bugs, Mitch.
