NYC Ballet Dancer footage - Artifacting?

I'm not sure what this is but thought the forum would know. I recently filmed some guest artist performances with NYC Ballet Dancers. The footage looks great in 1080i except every once in a while when there is a lot of movement the edges, arms, or legs seem to turn into pixels and then return to normal when the dancers slow down or stop.

Any ideas what this is - footage, DVD issue, playback, etc?

Sounds like normal interlacing? You get comb-like edges on fast motion?

Try watching on an actual TV rather than the computer screen... should be a lot better. But you may want to shoot 30p rather than 60i in the future for this type of thing... you'll get a nice motion blur rather than the interlacing.

The pixels remain in the shape of the object. I've watched this on a computer and 42" Plasma. Beautiful footage and then brighter whites and reds breakup when there's a lot of motion and not all of them, just the edges. Looks fine in Flash online. Just noticeable on DVD. I ran a 2-pass VBR because of the motion and still get the same results.

What is MPEG artifacting?

I talk out of my ass alot but.... What did you set the encoding bitrate to?

For online use, I set it to 10,000,000 or so and nothing is pixelated.
