NX1 Version 1.20 -- What Video Settings Are People Using?

Just curious which settings people are using with the new firmware.

Thus far I'm using--
Gamma DR, Sat: -5, Sharp: -10, Con: 0, Hue: 0
Master Black Level: 15
Luminance: 16-235

Is anyone adjusting contrast when using Gamma DR? When using the above settings, contrast seems to adjust overall exposure more than anything else. I'm sort of copying the James Miller GH4 settings and he had contrast set to 0 as well.

People should do many tests with all different settings and post their results. If lowering contrast actually improves latitude it may be useful. If it just flattens the curve then it will be mostly useless.

Oh and although if one was going to grade it would be beneficial to shoot with full range lumma levels, for out of camera tests I think it makes sense to stick to broadcast safe as you have, then there is no ambiguity as to whether the output levels have been set correctly.

What Matt said. You're a pioneer Noah...the community would appreciate a series of tests if you were willing to put in the effort. You'd get a healthy conversation started without doubt..

Noah, we'd love to see some tests!

Any particular reason for shooting 16-235 BTW?

Assuming you have a pipeline that can handle 0-255, surely that's better?

Then again, I never understood why anyone shot that on the GH4 anyway.

I mean good heavens man, 0-255 is 8-bit. 0-219 is like... 7 3/4 bit or something.

Why do you want to limit yourself further?

And if you master black level is 15, then you're not even 0-219. You're 15-219. Which limits you to only 204 possible values. You're cutting the range of values down by 20% or so. Ouch. Anyway, then you're down to just above around 7 1/2 bit. Joy!

Unless of course the camera does some sort of weird thing like record values out of range. But I don't think it does.

I'll have the camera soon and will be doing some testing myself. Though I would love to see what works best for others with the camera.
