Nuts, P2 card stuck

Hi all,

I'm using an old Dell Lattitude D800 laptop for my workflow and my P2 card is now stuck in the pmica slot. Not sure what happened to the little eject button that was always there. :Drogar-Dum(DBG): Looks like it might have fallen out. Any suggestions on getting it out?

thanks in advance,

JP

Try wedging it out with safety pins, paperclips or even sewing needles. If it is too tight, try taking the laptop casing apart and see if you can force it out from the inside. Another option is using a fairly strong magnet to "pull" it out. This might erase P2 data (and possibly hard drive data) though.

If all else fails, I would bring the laptop to a local and preferrably authorized computer repair center.

The eject button works by pushing on a lever that in turn pushes on the cards. So if the button has come out you could try using a long thin instrument with a blunt end to reach into the slot where the button was and push the lever inside.

Yes, the eject button is a captive toggle like the one on top of a ballpoint pen. Even if the button itself is missing, the mechanism itself should still be there, and you should be able to manipulate it with a straightened paper clip or something like that.

Got it! thanks guys. It took some finaggling but I got it with a paperclip.

I'm guessing I can get a replacement eject button from Dell. Anybody else have this problem?

thanks,

JP

From Dell? Yes, I had that problem twice. Dell's PCMCIA button broke on me twice... it required an onsite serviceperson to come out and swap out an internal board. No simple button replacement possible.
