"Number 6" (48hr Horror Film Festival)

Congratulations. Second is still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick:evil:

I watched this a couple of times and tried to concentrate on how this was shot and produced, each time the story took over and I completely lost interest in how it was done. The scary part of that for me was that this, in a sick way, was almost like a documentary; you just shot this guy as he was going about his day. I don’t ever want to meet the writer.

I enjoyed that very much, thanks.

Awesome. Very twisted. Love the look, use of color and lighting...
Let's see a full-length feature...

Well done. I especially liked the crane shot & transition - very well exicuted. hehehe ... Anyway, what crane/jib did you use?

Super. I loved it. Great look and use of camera...for a 48..superb...wanted a stronger ending is the only thing I can think of...
Goodwork fella

hey man.
loved the short. i was totally in love with the cinematography of it all. How did you have the time to perfect it so much?? I was the DP for mammas boy(3rd place) and we were filming to the end or time. were just re-doing the sound design, and im color correcting to MY specs and then well post the clip.
Loved the film, had my vote.
Cheers.
Steve

Seriously Norm, how did you pull off this level of quality in 48 hours? The production quality is tight.

Looks great Norm! I'm gonna be D.Ping as part of a team for the 48hrs competition in Toronto in June. It might even be run by the same group? Either way really inspiring work. Love the purple hue. I like it when people take on a "coolish" aesthetic but not necessarily blue. What kind of crane are you using? Very nice moves.

All the best.

Barry

Hey thanks ppl!

I dunno, I just went in..did my thing, and that's it! No real tricks or anything....I think it's all about practice and developing your eye to visualize "cool shots" more proficiently...I remember it took me a bit longer before to think of some shots when I see a type of location or set dec.. but now I feel I can think of some camera movements to really make use of the camera and location much faster... all about practice and observation..especially of the big movies out there.. and seeing what they do to make things better.

We shot for 10 hours on Saturday.. and then I edited from 8AM to 6:30PM on Sunday and handed it in!

Amazing work Norm. Wow...this was shot in 48 hours...and you had time to SLEEP???
Anyways, keep us posted on how you did on the contest. Great short for a 48 hour contest piece.

I actually didn't sleep...! a lot of it was planning when I wasn't actually physically shooting or editing.. :)

We received 2nd place... a little confused why.. even the team that got 1st told us that we deserved 1st and were surprised that we didn't get it! oh well... props to everyone for their hard work.

All for fun!

John - Your definately not the only Macabre fan here. I got pictures to prove it.

Great little flick. One of the better short I've seen. Love the evil dead/rafters shot.

hey norm.
i agree that you should have got first. The flick that won was really good, but it was more disturbing humour that horror. Id love to work with you some day on short projects. Love the peice, great vision.
Cheers
Steve

Fantastic Norm!!

Very impressive. If you told me it took you two weeks to make this short I would have been impressed.

I sent you a pm!

Thanks for sharing that clip with us. I can imagine how exciting it was to be on the new. Congrats!

Question for you: The scenes of you filming, those were reinactments? Or was someone else following you around while you filmed?

Good question! It was a reinactment done on a Thursday although we already filmed the Sat/Sunday a few days before. The reason being, the festival organizers called us and told us that CTV wanted to cover us so we had to do a reinactment :) It didn't look as busy as it actually was!
