ntsc with digital 24p

Okay, so before i start shooting for a project i'm going to be working on i need to know if i need to be shooting in 24p or 24pa on my dvx100b. I searched a while, but didn't come up with much so if there's other threads about this it'd be much appreciated to be redirected there.

So i got asked to shoot and contribute footage towards a project my friends working and its to be shot in 24p. However, he is shooting with his hmc40 and going to be working in premiere. I've never worked with premiere and only have access to fcp 7. Now i will be capturing my clips and then exporting them into .mov files and then sending those files files to him. My question is: Will normal 24p on my dvx be workable in the same workflow as that of his 24p avchd footage? Or will i have to shoot 24pa, then capture it as 29.98 and with pulldown removed (like normally) then export at 24p?

also i'll be shooting in squeeze and he'll down rezing, delivery will be on the web and dvd. Any help is much appreciated!

I'd shoot with 24pa, and since Premiere is capable of removing pulldowns, as well as deal with the squeezed format, I don't think you need to transcode to something else, just send your original captured dv coded files.

I'd give him the tapes and let him capture, unless he's on Premiere for the Mac.

Any time you're planning to edit as 24p, shoot 24pA. Always. No matter what anyone's editing on. Not every NLE is picky about it, but it's a foolproof rule of thumb.

Yeah he is using premiere for mac.. so i'll have to do the capturing and stuff.

Thanks for the replies.

And just to clear things up, in fcp i'll capture with advanced pulldown removed, then i'll put the clip into a sequence and just export it as a 24p .mov still squeezed? Then put the clip into compressor, use h.264 and make my dimensions 854x480 and bam, its good to go right?

Pardon my ignorance...but why does it matter if he's using premiere for mac or pc regarding capturing?

No, just give him the DV Quicktimes you get when you capture.

Don't know why you feel a need to transcode. The format of the data in a 'mov' file, from a DVX100 capture using FCP is 'DV', and as such, Premiere can take in 'DV', and remove the pull down directly, as well as deal with the squeeze mode.

By transcoding to H.264, you will introduce a generation of 'compression' which is unnessessary.
